Enhanced Drivers Licence

Any members have any problems with US border officers when only using the Ontario Enhanced Drivers Licence ? Thanks

They stopped providing these last month, i would expect issues eventually.

EDIT: looks like at renewal time.

Anyone with an enhanced driver’s licence would automatically be transferred to a regular licence when their card is due for renewal, he said.

Just get a Nexus, i never travel without mine. Can even use it on international flights when returning to Pearson.

Same. And get priority through security at airports too. Nexus is a no brainer if land crossing the US often enough and bonus express through security lines at the airport.

Does NEXUS help out if you're travelling nationally often?

I know a few years back Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa airports had a trial program where they had a NEXUS line for domestic flights. It’s been a while since I’ve done a domestic flight so I don’t know what ever happened with the program. I’ve got to fly out to Victoria in the Fall for work so I hope it’s still going on!

I fly so much in/out of Pearson I'd just be happy to bypass that lineup on the way into the airport. On the way back it's a tiny little airport and it doesn't matter but going west it's such a hassle.

There is probably nexus expedited routes for national flights, take a look next time you`re heading out. They are off to the side before screening.

I fly out of Toronto to Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary. There is a priority line at security at each of the airports. Aeroplan elite members, Amex Platnium and Nexus holders.

Also, if you are travelling with more than one person, only one person needs to have the Nexus. You all have to be on the same flight.

Just came back from Montreal and the line for security was insane. A colleague travelling on a different flight had to use the regular line while I took the priority line. Saved me about 30 minutes or so and had a beer before they met up with me.

Anyways, I prefer Nexus over the enhanced licence.

good to know!

I have the enhanced and I have a FAST card. Enhanced works as well as a passport at U.S. border. Doesn't mean they won't stop and search you though.

just wanted to be sure there werent any changes to THE EDL. my passport has expired (dont want to spend any money then i have to on a current)
Going to the states early fall.

passport is good for 10 years now!

...and the EDL can only be used at road border crossings...not at the airport
IMHO the EDL is only worth it if you're driving regularly across the border

A passport is $10/yr.

Or $24/yr if for some strange reason you want a five year passport. More if you account for the six months before it expires where it barely works.

EDL was $8/yr. Given the limitations on its use, why would people want them? Live close to the border so you can just randomly cross without having to remember your passport?
