Encourage empty pole position for Marco Simoncelli

How is that a good idea. Nice thought, for sure. But to disrupt the front row and reduce it to two riders?

Maybe let his father do a lap on his bike before the race or something,

I'm pretty sure I read on that page that because of all the interest in this that it will be empty space the next race.

I think it's a nice idea, Marco was very capable of obtaining a pole position. Besides the MotoGP champion has been crowned, this race is for the fans.
Dorna has already decided to re-name the San Marino Track and retire the #58.
Looking forward to whatever tribute they have planned and what the riders will do as well at Valencia.

lmao, on what, that Facebook page?

I hope you're not still waiting for that cheque from Bill Gates to come because you forwarded the e-mail.

Yes, how did you know?????
I believe everything fb, tv and movies tell me.

hahaha, awesome. :)

But anyway, as cool as this would be to see, I think that due to tradition from other riders in the past who've died on track this won't happen. Simoncelli was a great rider and personality, yes... but so was Showya Tomizawa for example, the Moto2 rider who was killed last year, and they did not leave the first place on the grid open for him.

That is why the team is bringing the bike and setting up their garage...

Cool idea, yes... but I don't think we will see it happen.

^^^^not sure if they can do it maybe the track owner(s) as far as I've read it's all rumor and speculation right now. Sorry if my post seemed like it was a legit thing.

I can see them naming a corner after him, but not the whole circuit.

i say they should leave either the slot he qualified in on that race last year, the slot he qualified in the previous race, or the slot of the season position he is in, if not the pole.

I think the Pole is a good idea. It is unique where the championship has been resolved... a rider shouldn't care TOO much about being on the 2nd row instead of the first, plus they will have a clear track in front of them anyway. Paint a 58 in red, white and black on the first grid spot.

Also, Marco's dad suggested 1 minute of noise, not silence.... that's cool.

The championship may have been already decided..... but 3-4 and 5-6-7-8 are in close points contests. It shifts 1 rider from each row back and it could really do without. All riders have points/standings contract expectations.

There is still a Canadian flag painted on the 3rd grid position at the Imola race track in memory of Gilles Villeneuve, they also renamed a corner.

It was his last qualifying position before being killed at the Belguim GP.

Any empty spot other than pole would give and advantage/disadvantage to the other riders on the grid based on which side of the gap they're on. The gesture shouldn't compromise anyone's race.
