Electric Motorbikes are here from Harley, Triumph, Ducati and ????

I was asking about stocks and inadvertently got into Electric Bike research,
I would love to test ride all of them although some are still in development, some for track, and some for street

Triumph
With the completion of the prototype demonstrator, the full live testing phase of the TE-1 project can now begin (phase 4). Over the next 6 months the prototype demonstrator will undertake an extensive live testing programme within Triumph’s state-of-the-art facilities, which will encompass:

Ducati
For the first time in its history, from 2023 Ducati will be the sole official supplier in a world championship. It will do so with a brand new bike: the first racing Ducati equipped with a fully electric powertrain.

Harley
Main Specs
  • Engine: Electric.
  • Power: 100 HP (estimated)
  • Torque: 84 lbs-ft @ 3000 RPM.
  • Wet Weight: 562 lb. ( 254.9 kg)
  • Seat Height: 30 in. ( 762 mm)
  • cost approx$40000
Is there any indi mfg.s that are making them???

Off the top of my head:

Zero is probably one of the first that actually had bikes in the wild. Still going.

Damon out of bc has some cool ideas but I suspect they are vaporware designed to milk governments. Time will tell.

Brp says they are selling some in about a year.

Livewire gen 1 and 2 are substantially different.

BMW has launched the CE line - kind of a motorcycle/scooter hybrid, though...

Not sure what you mean - it's an EV maxi- scoot - not a hybrid EV/ICE

They've had the CE ICE scooter for a while now and this was a concept vehicle from 2017.
Review of the production scoot here

Damon looks really interesting, great styling 3s 0-60mph, 146 m range, $19-25K tag,
test rides by application, next years vacation, another feature is adjustable riding position
BRP is not as stylish but the enduro would be goo for logging roads and northern rides they have level 2 charging to speed up things but i wonder if they have a solar option for back woods, have to email them.

A level 2 charger allows you to charge your electric car 5 to 7 times faster for a full-electric car or up to 3 times faster for a plug-in hybrid compared to a level 1 charger. This means you'll be able to maximize the use of your EV and reduce stops to charge at public charging stations.

BMW should come out with a motorbike as well as scooter since they have moved in that direction, i just not a scooter person

Harley needs better styling and or a cruiser type to go in a different direction, they could give it a soundtrack of traditional sound :)
or give me option for a conversion on my existing bike.

So out of the four on the street I really like the Damon, but vaporware, you don't think it has staying power to compete with ICE, i guess if Ducati and Triumph put their bikes on the road, they have a stronger distribution network and thats what it could come down to in the end.

The torque number is more-or-less irrelevant for an EV (of any sort), because it can be made up for by gear reduction ... it all depends on the operating RPM range of the motor in question. A fast-spinning (but relatively low torque) electric motor with a large gear reduction will typically be lighter than a slow-spinning high-torque electric motor, even once one accounts for the extra weight of the gear reduction ...

The continuous and intermittent power rating matters, and to some extent the shape of the torque curve. Yes, an electric motor still has a torque curve ... typically it will be constant-torque up to a certain "knee point" RPM and then constant-power beyond that RPM up to its rev limit.

If the Can Am is relatively light, off road capable but road legal (good suspension & brakes) and has a decent range then I'll be paying attention. There's nothing better than silence in the woods.

It's amazing and encouraging the progress they're making with EV's in general.

Now all we need is an energy storage medium with about 10x the energy density of Lithium batteries and we'll be good to go...

Enough range to get me to work (only a couple times due to current legality) and zero issues keeping up with highway speeds.

Not sure if I have the ambition make it pretty and legal. I did find an insurance broker who was interested.

It's good that you're interested in EV but you need go right back to basics and do some research. For a data point, a zero motorcycle has ~7kwh of battery. A typical ~9 sq ft solar panel is 100 watts or less. Recharging the bike would require more than 70 hours of full sun with a properly oriented panel. If you wanted to use a panel that was easy to carry on the bike, probably close to 700 hours of full sun to charge the bike.

I like it. That's an interesting project. Congrats on finishing it.

How do you make it legal? There are some sidesteps to get it licensed but making a homebuilt bike legal hasn't been possible in onterrible for a long time.

I'm shocked that an insurance company would touch it. They are as afraid of innovation as banks. Try to do anything outside of their small boxes and they normally tell you to piss off.

Energica in Europe and Lightning in the US are also small manufacturers with bikes on the road.

Tech and cost just isn't yet there to make EV motorcycles viable in NA as of yet.

It has a clean Ontario title in my name. I spoke to an insurance broker who specializes in custom choppers. He said that he hadn't done an electric but if I could get an appraisal and safety on it and be open to moving my home and vehicles to whoever agrees to insure it that he shouldn't have a problem.

There's no indication that this is a prototype, and it's been officially released, so I'm pretty sure that's what they will actually look like.
Hahahaha. First of all, I'm pretty sure that's a render. Secondly, have you seen the transformer crap they are wasting their effort on? They need to focus on a kickass first bike and add the transformer crap later. Lack of laser focus probably dooms them. They also insist on self-manufacture instead of partnering with someone experienced and competent like magna or mm. They are trying to become the tesla of bikes and odds are much higher that they are faraday future.

They also need all the stuff to make it street legal. Mirrors, tail section, indicators.

Here's hoping though.

Absolutely not a render, and this is their second bike. And as far as "transformer crap", it's some simple motors to raise and lower the bars and foot pegs. When they start playing around with the steering angle, then I'd be concerned. How many of us have gone in search of different bars and pegs to fine tune comfort?
