DZ Test

D test - written or road?

z test - written or practical?

Here's some info. They are 2 different tests done at different times. Check out Humber College or Transport Training Schools of Canada for training. Stay away from Metro, or any of the "discount" truck driving schools. Generally speaking, if the lettering on the training truck is in duct tape that's a bad sign.

The Z is written the D is the driving part. I took mine at modern training in Hamilton, all testing is done in house and they have their own trucks for depending on what you are getting your DZ for (fire truck in my case)

Think both parts actually have a written and practical part. For the Z you do a written test then you actually have to check the air brakes. The D is written similar to the G along with a driving portion.

Thanks!

I'm getting mine so I can drive the fire trucks also. How much was that course? How long did it take?

I did it a couple of years ago so cant remember exactly, want to say roughly 800 all in. Modern training is owned by a firefighter and has guys from Missisauga fire who do some of the driver training. So good place to go if thats why you want your dz.

Z test is all for the air brakes. You have to take an air brake endorsement course which will teach you everything you need to know to pass the test. This would be included in a dz training course but you could do it separately.

for the d test you can buy the ministry book for trucks to help you pass the written portion. The only thing to review for the road test is the pre trip inspection because failure to do something small like ensuring the gas tank cap is secure can be a failure.

if you are willing to spend the money for the full course as already mentioned modern and Humber run good courses and are well worth the money.

Z - Find a truck school that offers the Z course

D - Get your MTO medical done. Book your road test. Rent a truck from penske for the test. You can rent a truck with a G license that you can use for your D road test. This is how I got my DZ.
