So I am getting to the stage in my EFI build where I should have the bike idling by the end of this month and after I establish that I will be obviously trying to finalize a few things like airbox dimensions and fast idle actuator. After that I will basically need to tune the bike under load.
Now I am a cheap bastard.
Up until now I have done quite well vs my budget on this project so I am pleased in that regard. However I either need to road tune the bike (which I think by the time I have everything finalized we will be late into the summer and I made the financial decision not to ride in favour of purchasing a house this year. So there is no insurance on the bike so road tuning is out. That leaves dyno tuning. Now I know this gets fairly expensive and add to the mix the fact that most tuners use power commanders and stuff they may not be familiar with tuning on a micro/megasquirt which adds to the problem. What options would I have to tune it myself in my garage? Can I put a load on the engine in a non-conventional way? Perhaps using a brake to load up the engine.
Or is there a dyno shop that is maybe not too expensive? Would it be unreasonable to expect a map for say $300? Especially if I have an O2 sensor already hooked up there?
Any thoughts or something I may not have considered?
Let's hear it.
