Duster?

This may seem slightly weird, but I remember seeing pictures of allied motorcycle dispatch riders wearing greatcoats and what were effectively dusters on their bikes.

Does anyone here wear a duster or longer coat on their cruiser in the more rainy seasons, and can you provide a link to the coats? I'm wondering how they were secured from getting caught up in the chain and wheel wells.

Maybe this was just a movie thing?

if you're worried about them getting caught in a wheel, install a sari guard.

Like a lot of early motorcycle gear, dusters came from an equine background. The original dusters came down to the ankles and were split to the waist in the front and back. The lower portion could be fastened around each leg, like chaps, providing all-weather protection and allowing the rider to sit in the saddle and mount and dismount with ease. Sort of the original one-piece leathers, lol.
Dusters were modified for early car drivers, when cars were almost all open to the elements. There was no longer a need to protect the legs in the same fashion, so they became merely long coats.
Personally, I wouldn't want to wear one on a bike. Too many things flapping around. They were fine at the lower speeds of the teens and '20s but I really can't see it on the 401. Also, unless you're 6'6", any coat that long is going to make you look like a kid wearing his dad's coat.

The one linked by rukus had leg straps.

I think it would look badass... especially on an Ural bike.
Get a german style helmet and you're all set.

I have a Oil skin dover coat for sale if you are looking for one. It's a brown medium size, handed down to me, never worn. $80, I'm in the Bathurst & Finch area. If I don't sell it soon I may start using it, but it is a little bit big for me...So I do look like a kid wearing my fathers coat wearing it. It has the leg straps.

I caught a guy wearing the whole "ensemble" in Minden on Saturday. Black shorty, big azz boots, black jeans, black leather vest, black chaps and a black duster. Even from the other seven pirates in his parade, he stood out.
Fat and sassy :)
