Well, that shakes things up a little. The previous Energica deal got the series going, but Energica never really did much with it. The bikes stayed almost the same from start to finish, and although you can buy an Energica road bike, it really hasn't been developed any further. They weren't a well-established manufacturer, and they still aren't.
I was thinking that it might be Triumph (who have been involved in a research project to develop a good electric street bike), but the Ducati tie-in makes a whole lot of sense - and it has the resources of the VW Group behind it - and VW is on a mission to put combustion engines behind them. This might be an incentive for VW to hang onto Ducati instead of cutting them loose (which was an earlier rumour).
