The bike is new to me so Im learning as I go, Ive only gone through 3 tanks of fuel and Im a little disappointed with the numbers Im getting, this last tank I had to switch to reserve at 134kms now granted I have been pretty hard on it but that seems pretty bad, my best was 165, is this normal. I just took off a full FMF exhaust and put the stock one back on, I dont believe that it was jetted for the FMF because I always felt the bike surging when at a steady speed and now with the stock I feel it even more. Stock air filter and stock air box, what do you guys think.

First thing is first. Take off the seat and check for a hole in the airbox that might be cut. If so then you need to jet the bike properly for the increased air intake. What kind of carbeurator does it have on it, is it the Keihen model or stock? Before I put my Keihen carb on the throttle response was shotty at steady speeds, getting the other carb out on made it wayyyy better. Hope this helps.
 
The bikes stock carb is all choked to comply with California emission standards and crap (DRZ400). BY THE WAY What kind of DRZ is it?!?!
 
My 04 DRZ400S is completely stock and I average about 150 until reserve.
 
Almost all of them surge in stock form. Jet and do the 3x3 to get rid of it and get a little more snap.
