Dream trip to Italy to ride Ducatis and he dumps it.

I just watched it 3 times and can't figure out what happened either.

Looks to me like he hit a bump (crack in pavement) and lost traction. Watch it again.

Short wheelbase, stiff suspension, look how rough the road is from beginning of vid = crash.

It was the crack in the road. The first one wobbled him a bit so he probably slowed down for the second one which of course made things worse.

Damn, short wheels and stiff suspensions can actually do that? Guess I learned something new today. So what if you made the suspensions softer? Would it have helped him?

If he were rolling on the gas and light on the bars he would have been OK. The wheel would just glide over instead of digging in, and any wobble would be light and fade quickly.

Suspension that is too stiff can cause the wheels to lose contact with the ground. You need compliance to allow the wheel to follow the road up and down without transmitting the whole motion into the chassis.

Doesn't seem like anyone here but me noticed the bumpy road sign on the right about 3 seconds before he binned it....
I'm guessing he hit a bump, front end came up enough to lose traction, got the bars slightly off center, came down on that giant crack in the road with the wheel on an angle. Fall down go boom.

If a crack like that takes down a Ducati it's no wonder I rarely saw one in NL! The road cracks in NL are more like crevasses.

Wha? Ya can't get yer Ducati cross dat road? Whas wrong wit ya, b'y?!

To me it seemed like he was pushing the bike underneath him .... like a dirtbike, hence eating up a TON of lean angle. There was a thread on the General section saying how there is no need to hang off on the street. Well folks, if the dude was hanging off (no need for sticking the knee way out), this crash probably wouldn't have happened.... plus it sounded like he was coasting..... as I have learned at the track, not a good idea. On the throttle or on the brakes... you can keep constant throttle, but never coast.
