Does car insurance history affect motorcycle insurance rates?

Depends on the insurance company.

I don't think SF cares as long as you don't have 3 convictions.

Most insurers (In fact I would have suspected all until I saw the post above about Jevco) will take into account claims on a motorcycle or Auto Policy.

I know I had a 20km/hr over ticket when I went to SF and they said it was fine for my bike insurance but had to wait till it cleared before they would insure my truck.

how can they tell if it was on the bike or not?? A conviction on your abstract doesn't specify the vehicle...

As far as I understand it a ticket/conviction/infraction etc goes on your license period.
You only have one drivers license for both car and motorcycle. It's your driving record, insurance dosnt care what you were driving at the time.
I your a crappy driver or a speeder in a car why would you be any better on a bike.
Insurance will use any excuse they can to jack up your rates.

Was wondering if my auto insurance history will affect my future motorcycle insurance rates?

Or is auto and motorcycle insurance separate?

Thanks

Sure does ..You insurance history is rated regardless of the vehicle type, as long as it was insured its a factor ..

Sorry Moto but that is not correct. As I stated before there are companies such as Jevco that will only rate accidents with a motorcycle. As well there are also some companies that will not rate for an accident that occurs while driving a work vehicle. Tickets will follow you regardless.

does anyone know if facility, td insurance or johnson and johnson insurance(not sure if they sell motorcycle insurance) separate the two?

The bike show is on in two weeks and there should be insurance companies there. Get specifics instead of relying on people that heard something from a buddy who has a cousin that knows a girl that used to work for a guy that had a brother who did something with insurance.
Always remember that convictions are not related to claims. They don't always come as a pair. You can get a speeding ticket without having a claim and you can make a claim without getting charged ie parking lot bump.
The insurance company will ask for the right to check your abstract for convictions and will have a system to check within the insurance industry for claims. Whether they choose to act on the information appears to depend on the company.
I would have thought all convictions would count but others disagree.

Really .. do you have any proof of this ? As for as i understand, one license, one insurance record "regardless " as for Jevco, even if true, "who cares", they aren't providing any affordable motorcycle insurance anyway ..

One licence I agree with but the claims info is with the insurance company. It is up to them whether they share info with another company. Underwriters call other companies for history.

SF was apparently a PITA to get answers from and were treated with reciprocal attitude when they asked.

That was a few years back. I haven't heard if a new system has been put into place but I doubt it as it allows competitors insight into anothers business.

Moto.... I am a broker and have access to their rating manuels which states that they only rate for claims involving a motorcycle. Jevco may not provide a good rate for you as a driver but that doesn't mean they won't for another driver.

As for noobie48, all insurance companies must disclose there claims to a third party company whioch houses this information. An Autoplus is a report that can be ordered by all insurers to verify your insurance exprience. State Farm cited privacy laws to stop from providing Letter of Expriences. A broker may ask for a LOE if your autoplus has inconsistencies or if the client is advising the information is incorrect.
