My 14 year old son just sprung a request on me as I headed out the door to work tonight. He wants to meet up with some of his High School mates at a warehouse Sunday afternoon to do an Airsoft battle. Everyone chips in $20 for the floor rental. Apparently their going to lend him some guns and safety gear. I haven't a clue about Airsoft so I'm hoping someone here knows a bit as I don't have much time at work to go on the computer and research.

Is it like paintball? Safe? What does he need to wear? Stuff like that. I think that you have to be 18 to purchase guns and ammo but is he allowed to play or can I get charged for allowing it?

You gotta be 18 to purchase and play for insurance reason. I am on a break for that. Spent about $5000 in total for 3 years due to new tech ology gas guns. ;) Sign up on Airsoftcanada.com.

If your son wants to play, you need to play too. Basically on the forum, FAQs first, then you gotta get age verified to browser through the classifieds there. Good deals, and also used guns and all. It's more of a grey area hobby/sport because some guys out there do pretty stupid stuff with an airsoft gun.

That's great, thanks for the link. Couldn't do any searches at work, anything to do with gaming, guns, girls, it's all blacklisted. I guess he'll have to cancel today's game until I can assess it better.

I'm off next weekend, I'll accompany him to the warehouse then to see how they roll.

Went to torontoairsoft.com. Man, those things are expensive.

Toronto airsoft.com is one of the better priced shops. Definitely not a cheap sport. But what sport is?

That's some nice work, looks very authentic. Can't say I'm interested in playing myself, I think that's left to the younger ones.

Not sure about it, some mature themes for a 14 year old. Then again he's been playing COD-style video games since he was 7, I have till next Sunday to decide regardless.

Dude, looks awesome!

Let the boy play! It's safe (just make sure he wears the gear), active, fun, and he'll make some friends that are at least doing something organized and that benefits him in lots of ways. And you'll get cool father points for letting him go.
I bet that if you went and joined in, you would have an absolute blast too!

I grew up playing paintball, and didn't turn out violent or with any sick fantasies. I played it for the first time when I was 12 and was one of the best memories I had with my step dad. BTW, it had no factor in my ending up in the military, that's just where my cards fell.

Yeah, but you like train horns :D

You make good points though. He's in Army Cadets, and wants to go to RMC when he graduates. Maybe I'm just trying to moderate the exposure. I'll go with him next Sunday and report back.

I have a modified Tokyo Marui MP5 A4 electric automatic sub machine gun, but I just chew up pop cans with it in my shop while Im bored running CNC machines....Never actually played a game...They used to sell them at a Chinese mall down the street from me on Dixie, but that got shut down long time ago...

its quite the blast, i saw a bunch of father/son combo's over the years.

you can even play indoors at dupont and dufferin or something, look up FACT TTAC toronto
its a martial arts studio and they do and train airsoft. Like military guys training you at breaching and such. cool st uff

Went last night to the warehouse. I watched from the ready room while my son played. It's setup pretty nice. They share it with paintball as well so there was still wet paint all over the place. They did all different types of play. Teams, last man standing, CQB, breaching etc. There was all ranges of age and types. Some guys were right into it with combat gear and a plethora of airsoft guns. My son had a blast so thanks for the info.

Now he wants me to sign him up for kickboxing. After 3 weeks of high school I don't even recognize this kid anymore. He used to be the most risk-averse, separation-anxious kid I ever saw.
