Does anybody work in toronto?

I work on the beaches and live in Milton....now with the Gardiner construction it takes me 2 hours to get to work in the morning!

Does anybody else have this problem or found a better way to travel other then QEW at winston then Gardiner the entire way? The Lakeshore scares me...

I discovered the GO last year after driving in for three (although I am a 5m walk from Union to the office).

Assuming that you are looking for a route to ride/drive - but if there is any way you can take the GO then go for it (horrible pun).

I do have to drive in for softball on Tuesdays - find that if I am on the QEW @ Hurontario before 7am then traffic is not terrible - about 30m from there to parking @ Church St.

lakeshore is better but not by much.

I work in toronto, but i drive in the opposate direction (going in west, from the east). I odn't really have this problem.

Im mobile, and go all over at all times.

What time of the morning are you talking about?

Lakeshore is almost always better coming into the city (almost). Can you shift your hours? Come in earlier or later? You can always take transit but getting out the the beaches you may be SOL and spend the same amount of time with a GO/TTC combo

going through the beaches is always a giant pain, any time, any day

401 eastbound & come south on DVP?
Or Don Mills has MC/HOV Lane.

Either way, once you get into East York, it's gonna suck.

decent powerboat, Milton to Bronte , about 20 mins. Zodiac to the beaches, you have to slow down in the Toronto harbor but there is no speed limit on the lake. Before everybody laughs, you would not be the only guy doing this.

I had to cage it to the "Beach" a week ago from 427/ Bloor and went across the city. It took about 2 hours but at least I could stop for a coffee. All kinds of city street work made it a pain. There are no secret routes that no one else knows about.

You are looking at a lifestyle situation with three options, 1) Change jobs, 2) Change residence or 3) Get used to 2-3 hour commutes.

Re "Beach" house prices, one bedroom shack on 20 X 60 foot lot = a half a million. AND it isn't on the beach, just "In" the "Beach"

Well right now the best plan I have is suffering through 2 hours of traffic to work...(leave at 640am, arrive at beaches at 830am) and then I just go to the gym after work at the beaches. Driving home at 830pm has a lot less traffic.

Luckily this job is only for a few months.

I have thought of this idea many a time. Sadly I don't own a power boat.

I would love to see a Hamilton/Toronto ferry service, with maybe 1-2 other stops.

sadly the ferry service has been tried on more than one occasion. Toronto to Hamilton , Toronto to Burlington (spencer smith park had a huge dance hall) Toronto to N-O-T-L , and last try was Toronto to Rochester (think it lasted a month).

My acquaintance did Toronto to St Cath in his 28ft 300hp zodiac for weeks in the summer, its about 28 miles across the lake, 45mins. dock to dock.

IMO, I don't see the boat thing as being a viable solution, much less a business idea to capitalize on. Which is probably why all those ferry services go under quickly.

Losing a "boatload" of money came around as a term for a reason!

I might to start commuting to lakeshore from north of 407 everyday soon. ****, not looking forward to that.

I cycle to work.

I'm no hippie, but damned if it isn't the only functional way to get to work on time every day without going crazy. Driving? That's no way to get anywhere fast in this town. TTC? Forget it.

Plus it's way better than going to a gym for my exercise and costs zeeeerroooooooo (except for the occasional bit of bike maintenance).
