Do "setup" days exist? Looking to get my suspension (SAG) set up for my weight

I'm looking to adjust the suspension to a base setting for my weight and a friend mentioned to me that there are sometimes clinics where you can bring your bike in and get it setup for a fraction of what it would cost at a shop. Is this true?

I'd like to avoid paying $80 for a 15 min job at a shop if I can.

Any recommendations?

Read the manual, buy tools and start wrenching.

Best investment you'll ever make.

Assuming the springs are in the ballpark for your weight, you can set the sag yourself in about 15 minutes.

Get a friend to help you because it takes 2 people. You'll also need a preload wrench which is around $10-20 at most places.

I think $80.00 to make a $10,000.00 bike handle better is a great investment

its not $80 for a 15 min job, its $20 for the shop time and $60 for the really smart guy that has spent years learning suspension and gets your setup right on the first try, and already owns the tools.

+1

I think it's a bit pricey too but it's normally a two part adjustment and you can come in for the 2nd part whenever.

Better with three, unless you've got stands.

Speedworx in Markham can set up suspension for $25. Those guys know what they are doing.

Yea it's worth the $80 but if you're in any way mechanically inclined it really is worth it to learn your bike. My Daytona spent a lot of time in pieces in the garage this summer, but it was totally worth it. The only jobs I had to go to GP for were the recall and post-crash.

Re: Do "setup" days exist? Looking to get my suspension (SAG) set up for my weight

I had my entire suspension reworked for my weight and height (changed out everything) it was definitely more than a 15 min job and way more than 80 bucks. But it was the best money I've spent on my bike so far. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself spend the 80 bucks get someone that knows what they're doing to do it properly. Otherwise there is a ton of information out there for you to DIY.

IMHO $80 isn't much in the grand scheme of things... and a properly tuned suspension makes a HUGE difference.

Look up the SAG setup tutorial by Keith Code. Everything you need to do to properly set up sag is explained in detail in his video.

I'm a heavier rider, so pretty much have to swap out springs on every bike I've had. Getting a suspension setup done right is the best money spent if you ask me.

Crankcall said it best too, $80 to make a $10K bike handle better, money well spent. Heck, people spend $50 on fender eliminators that don't to jack.

what kind of cost can you expect when you need to start changing out springs?

So what's a good shop to do it then? Yes, $80 to make things work well ain't that much.

Pro6, Z1, Riders Choice.

Depends on what you're going after, type/brand of spring, shock etc.

Can be anywhere from $400 to $2000+. Depends on the bike as well.

I've gone to Z1 and Pro6.

Pro6 charged me $65.

Rider's Choice $50 to set-up my suspension (not just the sag) and it was the best money I have ever spent on my bike.
