DIY help - exhaust shield

I know I can probably go to a salvage and pick up a part, but after the price of gas in my jeep, the item and my time, it's probably not worth it for me unless I'm in the area. So, I got my first bike and it appears as though the exhaust shield is broken off. I didn't think much of it at first and then once I warmed up the bike, it was gettin' pretty hot on my leg. I thought there might be a good DIY solution to this, but can't find one online. Any advice? It's a 93 Honda Shadow VLX 600 in black.

I've included a picture. Some details - 2" diameter front, 3.5" diameter in the back. It's exposed for the first 6" around the 2" diameter part and where it starts at 3.5", it goes about another 10" uncovered.

I'd like to do this on the cheap if I can.

How thick would that sheild be? Can he just go to metal supermarket / get a piece of aluminum form to fit and put two holes in it?

The shield is pretty thin -maybe 3mm. I could maybe form it myself, but for a couple extra bucks, I'd just get the actual part. The only issue is that I'm about 40km from the nearest Honda dealership, and in a 5.2L jeep, that's about $30 in gas...hence, why I was kinda hoping for a simple DIY solution. I should have mentioned that I was just hoping to get through a few weeks until I acquire the actual part.

I just got a quote for $120 plus tax for the part I need. It's not gonna happen. No DIY suggestions or other places to try for this part?

Try calling around to a few scrap yards, or try calling Bent Bikes in Mississauga:

2533 Wharton Glen Mississauga, ON L4X 2A8
(905) 273-3717

Just go to your local performance store (I got mine at performance improvements) and grab some heat wrap. they come in three different colors (beige, black, and titanium) for about $10-$30 a roll depending on the length.

I wrapped my pipes on my cbr 1000RR due to the fairings starting to melt... after the wrap i can touch the pipes and only feel warm temp... and not searing my fingers off
