a few months ago i mounted my gps on my gas tank via gopro mounts. and i wasnt a fan of how it looked, nor was i fan not having a quick release when you leave the bike.
so i tried hunting down a Stem ram mount.... apparently there is a crazy backlog through parts canada with these type of things..
so i set out to make my own. ive seen some people who just stick a metal pole into the stem with some form of attachment on the end for their gps. As great as this would be to double back as a mirror removal tool for blind cagers. it didnt have a clean enough look for me.
so this is what i came up with
materials needed:
1. a round ball that your able to drill through (see pictures below for ball size by gps brand)
2. a matching nut and bolt 3 inchs long - 2 nuts
3. 6 RUBBER bathroom sink facet washers
4. 2 washers of same size as the facet washers
here is the size ball needed based on your gps brand
TOM TOM
GARMIN
Procedure: drill through the ball. feed the bolt through. take one nut and fasten it. take metal washer, followed by 5 rubber washers, followed by the last metal washer, and then the last rubber washer, and nut.
the last washer and rubber washer will make sure that when you tighten it, the 5 consecutive washers squish together and start to swell pushing against the sides of the stem and creating a tight secure fit.
to tighten it all up spin the last nut until you cant do any more by hand.
use some wd40 push it into the stem. and then tigthen it up with what ever screw driver bit needed,
and voila its done. cost me all of ~6 bucks
should sit nice and flush like this
