DIY Fork Service - tools needed

You don't need that kit to do the job. Here's what I posted in another thread (not my videos, just the ones I followed to get the job done);

I just did the same job on my WR450F (SM)

Disassembly

I hung the disassembled forks upside down and let them drain into a drain pan over night.

Filling, bleeding, and measuring the fork oil

You don't need special tools;
- use a plastic baggie (or I saw one suggestion to use a condom) instead of the fork bullet to get the seals on
- mark off a section of clear tubing (fuel line from Canadian Tire) to the proper depth and suck excess oil out

AND BUY THE MANUAL!

The tools required will vary substantially depending on the type of forks, and as usual, we have no idea of make/model/year.

Damper rod forks without external clicker adjustments are dead simple. No spring compressor needed, only thing special is a long allen socket to get to the bolt in the bottom of the forks that holds the damper rod, and an air impact to get that bolt out.

Inverted cartridge forks are quite another matter. Most of the special tools can be improvised, though.

Inverted Ohlins forks require their own set of special tools.

I used to DIY my fork rebuilds ... Now with a set of race tech tools everything gets done to spec Abd properly. DIY tools and compressing forks can go bad fast.
