Dirt bike insurance for trails

I just bought a 2005 YZ 250. (never been registered according to MTO) and while having major problems getting it registered due to the abundance of mixed messages from dealers, MTO, GTAM members, I'm am now looking for DIRT BIKE insurance (while working on registration) so that I can ride crown land and places like the GANNY.

Is there anyone here that has a MOTOCROSS bike that has gotten insurance for trail riding successfully?

Any info would help ie. company, rates, documents needed etc..

thanks in advance

PS. its looking like im going to need an affidavit stating that i cannot find the original owner and MTO ACTUALLY SAID even the affidavit might not work depending on the tellers mood. (oh my wonderful Ontario). I guess its safe to say that MTO currently does not have a protocol in place for people trying to register older bikes in which ownership lineage cannot be traced. (typical)

I think all motocross bikes should have to be registered by the dealer in the buyers name, not just a cert of sale; so that people like me and others on here that purchase a used bike that has never been registered can actually register it.

its 2011...why are we acting like its 1940? Insanity!

There is no problem getting insurance on a mx bike,I payed $114 this year for a 2010 KTM 300 full coverage. It really does depend where you go to get a ownership for a bike, some make you swear on a bible right there and others make you go to the dealer with your #VIN to make sure its the same bike(letter from dealer)
They even asked if I wanted a blue plate for my bike lol. So I said yes please and make that for two years:happy3:

thanks for your help guys....i saw an affidavit sample on here earlier and now i cant find it....anyone have that?

Thanks Xhumeka that one worked. They actually gave me a hard time asking for a letter of compliance from the dealer. That's a new one. lol But i told them to call their superiors and ask if an affidavit is enuff and they said yes. So this affidavit was enuff. Had to get a a lawyer down the street to sign it for 30 bucks and done. appreciate the help.

Is it possible to get trail insurance on a bike without a title? I was thinking of buying a dirtbike from the states this winter.

spaceboy, just use the same afidavit posted above on your american bike, thats all i did for mine and it worked fine.

once its here that is, how you get it here is up to you.

I have a different question about insurance for trails... if I have a bike insured for the street, does it cover me if I go offroad? Maybe a question for my insurance company... I know they won't cover anything for the track (actually told me they wouldn't insure me if I took any of my vehicles to the track).

I'm curious, I bought a pit bike for my son. It has a VIN printed on the frame but didn't come with an ownership. Could I use the same process to register the bike and insure it?

Like you say - best asked to your insurance company but my guess is that you are fully covered. Any blue plated dual sport bike I have ever owned on any of my policies did not require anything separate from road insurance (State Farm, TD, and Jevco).

I'm gonna have to get a plate for my bike so I can ride some trails... Hopefully I can manage to sneak one through like you did!
Rig up some cheap light system and away I go!
