Direct Energy

Thieving bastards. Thank god I reneged on my deal getting them to install a new furnace, hot water and ac. I was just bein lazy and they were to get it all done super quick....but make off like bandits. Saved HUGE cash doin some of the work myself and getting a professional installer bud to do the tougher stuff. What a bonehead move on my part...to even let them in the door. Oh ya without even lookin at my ac...ya it should be replaced...lol. This is typical of them...had problems with them before...now they are even movin head quarters to Texas I believe....good riddance.

Ya, I just sent them an email to get a buyout figure on my water heater before the April deadline.

I was tired of paying $15/month for an 8 year old water heater, so a few months ago I bought my own from Canadian Tire, got my brother in law to hook it up, and returned Direct Energy's heater in the back of my hatchback (do I ever need a truck once in awhile!).

Fortunately I didn't need to fight with them regarding the return... I've read online that people are sometimes given a hassle getting the rental fee off of their bills.

Now, as long as my new water heater lasts me 3.5 years, I will be ahead of the game on the water heater.

I've got a 15yr old WH. I hope it doesn't go soon. But we've own it so long, I think we've already win, lol

Typically those are scams, but guys, whenever activating a new gas appliance, it needs to at least be inspected by a licensed gas tech, both for your own safety and for compliance with the law.

yes, yes, and yes...there are enough yahoos out there doing shoddy install work for gas stuff...get it inspected, it's free...

Kinda sad considering that Ontario's level of industry regulation is pretty tight. You can imagine how it is in many states south of the border where any yahoo with a pipe wrench and a truck can become a "gas fitter". Hell, if you want reliable gas work done down there, you call a plumber

screw em..i got rid of my ten year old rental tank from em last year and never looked back.

its nice owning all my appliances

Did I hear they dropped this plan to change the contract?

You sir, are correct.

http://www.680news.com/news/local/a...lans-to-change-water-heater-rental-agreements

Direct Energy is cancelling plans to change its water heater rental agreements.

The company's proposed changes would have made it more difficult to buy a tank instead of renting, or to switch to another company.

Currently, if a heater is rented from Direct Energy, it can be removed at no cost, or for a small fee.

just bought my own this year after 4 years with reliance (previous home owner). You get tired of paying $50/quarter when you can out right buy (natrual draft) for about $500.

I need to cancel mine. Don't want anything to do with these clowns. How hard is it to do?

pretty easy actually. you call a number, you tell them that for XX reason you will no longer be using their heater. Schedule to either have them come and remove it (not disconnect it, just take it back) for $75 or select a location to drop it off for free. Because i was 32+ km from their nearest drop off point, they came and removed it for free.
