Did you lose a helmet at Kipling and Queensway ?

You were making a left turn from South bound Kipling to the Queensway around 3:30 today riding a red Yamaha, looked like an R6. The helmet that you had on the back of the bike flew off as you went around the corner. It is a matte black Icon Alliance size small, there's a few scrapes on it but it might still be alright. I have the helmet in my van, if you want it back send me a PM and we can meet up.

LOL If it fell off a moving bike it's definitely no good. Bhahahaha

Are you kidding? if the shell isn't cracked then its still good. Once there's a decent crack on the shell then its garbage.
?????????? I hope to god you are kidding. A simple drop off the handlebars and the interior is compromised. You can Darwin yourself but don't spread misinformation.

Just because it fell doesnt mean its worthless, he was in a left turn doubt he was going fast...check the helmet and see if its still in good condition, theres always a possibility. Maybe not a big chance the helmet is still good but theres still a chance.

Talking of spreading misinformation, could you explain how the interior gets compromised from such a fall?

This comes up quite a bit throughout training, and there's a lot of misinformation floating around. Generally speaking, an empty helmet will most likely remain effective after a minor drop

Well for one this: http://www.smf.org/helmetfaq#aDroppedHelmet
Also It's your head. Do you really want to put on a helmet that fell and could be compromised. I wouldn't want to be in an accident and find out the hard way. And especially if some poor chick is on the back and unaware the helmet she's wearing fell from a moving vehicle.

You posted a link that contradicts your own assertion above, you know... the one about a simple drop off the handlebars?

That is what I was told during my msf course and I'd rather be safe that sorry. Dropping a helmet is not as major as falling off a moving bike. OP even said it had scratches.
Anyways do what you want. It's your life.

It's been tested. If the helmet is empty it's fine (as long as the shell isn't cracked). If your head is in it when you drop it then junk it.

I dropped my Arai from about 5ft onto concrete, sent it to Arai for an xray, shell and interior were flawless, they touched up the scratches, looked brand new after :)

They do that? What was the cost? I dropped my arai on concrete from couple of feet and it rolled scratching the paint.....

It was many moons ago. I believe I just had to pay for return shipping IIRC. Give em a call and find out the details! This is the number I called: 610-837-4210

The instructors who teach the MSF course are just regular people. They don't have any super secret inside information. They read forums and form opinions based on other opinions, like anyone else does.
