Describe Your BEST Vacation

Decided to go travel with no time limit and I would really appreciate some suggestions. I've always said that I wanted to travel, but I could never pull the trigger on it until now.

My first stop's New York, and my dream vacation's Hawaiii...but I have no idea where to go after that

Maybe Italy?

My top three in order, Greece, the food was great, people really nice and lots of interesting things to see. Italy, again with the food, great things to see and a centurys old culture. American south west, I really like the desert, the mountains and the scenery constantly changes. My wife liked the southwest so much she bought a house in Arizona.

Back in '83 I left Edmonton and headed North. Did Northern B.C., the Yukon, Alaksa, and caught a ferry down to the tip of Vancouver Island. Then down the west coast to San Diego, and across to Florida, then North to Kingston. 2-1/2 months. Was getting pretty tired of it by the end to tell the truth.

I went to Monaco/NICE this past summer during a tour of England, France and Italy. Monaco/NICE is stunning. Where else are you going to see a Bugatti Veyron parked across from you while having lunch?

I did notice the food in France was better than Italy.

I was in Tuscany for 4 days. There is nothing much to do there so if your into parties/clubs, that is not the place to go.

I used to want to party in Ibiza, but I'm sort of over the whole clubbing thing. Not sure if it'd be worth the trip

Do you think Greece would still be just as good, given everything that the country's going through at the moment?

Is it feasible to take a bicycle around town in Italy?

I don't blame her. I got to stay in Scottsdale for a business trip and that trip single-handedly made me stop hating hot climates.

What are you looking for?

I would recommend China if you're into experiencing a totally different culture, seeing VERY historic areas (like 5000 years of history retained in that country) and if you can travel around the country far enough, you will see beautiful landscapes of all different climates (kinda like Hawaii, but on an enormous scale).

Done a ton of traveling, alone and with the missus. Everyone has different tastes in what they like or want to see and do. The majority of people ive met in Toronto just want to go lay on a beach and sleep for a week. Coming from a beach tourist town in Aus I find that boring.

What sort of things are you interested in doing/seeing?

My best vacation was hawaii. One week in maui and the other in kauai. I spent each day either hiking, surfing, snorkeling or scuba diving. This is how I would choose to spend the rest of my life.

Pack two very well setup motorcycles with spares into a trailer and do a track day tour of some top European tracks. Two days at each, then move on. Finish it up with a week in the south of France or maybe Italy.

Also, I want to go back to New Orleans with a group of friends. Love the place.

I loaded up a back pack and hit Europe for 4 months back in 2001. Have grandparents in N. Germany that I would swing by now and then for some laundry and good food (they speak no english, I speak no german) and then would head out again. I had an unlimited use Europass for all of Europe so never needed to worry about transportation. I loved the freedom that offered. Ireland was incredible, I spent such a short time there, I really want to go back and tour the less populated parts of the island. Incredible landscapes, the people were the nicest bunch I have met anywhere. You can go anywhere, and have an amazing time, adventure, whatever, the world has so much to offer and see, spin the globe, put your finger down and go!

The place I would really really love to go is some of those South Pacific islands, (Pitcairn Island) so isolated, yet pockets of people live here and there.

I haven't done much personal travel. I went to work straight away after university, bought a house not long after, and have been busy and/or broke since.

I have been fortunate to go some pretty cool places through work - rural England, London, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Istanbul. I thought Istanbul was amazing and I'd love to go back someday. Shanghai was great too.

My dream vacations are Iceland, South island of New Zealand and Japan. Would pick the seasons carefully of course.

I would love to check out Ibiza.... my best trip was living in Hong Kong and back packing along the coast of China - did Beijing, Shangai down to HK and Macau and various places in between.

Istanbul was pretty cool I agree.

I would love to do the 107 day Pacific Princess world cruise when I retire.

Other than that I have...

Moscow
Tokyo
Cape Town
Rio

left on my list of places I haven't been that I want to see.

now that's a trip!

It really depends on a few things.

Whether you want a "vacation" or you really want to "travel"
Whether you have lots of money or not so much money.
The type of stuff you like to do.

If you want a vacation, then yeah I'd say go to hawaii or one of the many all-inclusive caribbean options.

If you have lots of money and want to travel, GO EVERYWHERE or at least hit every continent.

If you don't have lots of money and want to travel, I would recommend backpacking around southeast asia or central/south america before going to any of the popular european destinations.. Generally speaking, I think a lot of the big/popular european destinations are incredibly overrated, overcrowded and pricey.

It sort of depends what you want to do. If you like museums and oldish buildings than maybe you'll enjoy a place like Paris, but to me, Paris is kind of boring. I'd rather be climbing mountains, spotting wildlife, diving in the ocean or going on multi-day treks that walking around tourist infested cities waiting to overpay for crap and for touts to annoy me all day.

Greece is still just fine, I was there last year. The only revenue they have is tourism, they treat travellers pretty well.

You could cycle around most cities in Italy, except venice, that water problem makes cycling awkward. The legend of wacky drivers in italy is deserved , you really need to be careful by Toronto standards.

I liked Barcelona, its a world class place to eat and party. the architectrure is amazing and they have the coolest waterfront. I had drinks at the Barcelona Yacht Club, it was pretty impressive.

I want to do

Whistler (again)
Morroco
Euro-trip (scandinavian countries a MUST)
Brazil
Hong Kong/Macau

Ibiza is burned out, or maybe i'm burned out... Feels very commercial. A good festival is a much better experience.
