Dentists - Like a Visit to the Dealership (upselling)!

So I had a dentist for years who I trusted not to do any work on my teeth unless it TRULY was needed. He sold the business a few years back and retired. I brush twice a day, floss all teeth 3 times a week (no bleeding) and was told by him that I'm in the top 2 or 3 patients he's got in terms of teeth health.

I then got a new dentist close to home in Brampton and next thing I know he wants to fill this tooth and that tooth even though I've got no pain in any and you can barely see the grey area in the x-ray (darker grey I've seen and confirmed with pain). There's no way I got cavities in 6 months since the retired dentist.

So I dropped him and get a new dentist close to my work. She proceeds to x-ray I swear every single tooth as the x-ray machine was moved about a cm each time (I counted 10-12 shots from right to left). Of course, she's then telling me I must grind my teeth at night and I need a mouth guard (never had anyone hear any grinding at all next to me ever). I also need a bunch of cavities filled. Of course. :sneaky:

W5/Marketplace should do a hidden camera investigation like they did on those quick lube places that are always telling you that your car needs an engine flush, a new PCV valve, wipers, etc.. No doubt, a bunch would be caught scamming patients and insurance company's.

Anyone know a dentist that's like #1 I had?? Preferably near work at Steeles and Dufferin or along the way home to Brampton?

At bayview village (bayview and sheppard). Very nice staff, the Dentist was chatty and very polite. I haven't always taken the best care of my teeth and I got chided by the dental hygienist for lack of flossing properly but there were no concerns about fillings.
 
Had a great dentist. He was murdered in the parking lot of tha Atherly Arms. Replacement is great. Bonus: he has excellent taste in hired staff.

I have been going to Brandon Gate Dental. Neighbourhood is a bit sketchy but Dr Gorendar is great and I trust him. He sold a few years ago to a conglomerate but was still working there the last time I was in. I have no idea how much longer he is going to keep working. I am looking to switch to one closer to home as he is presumably on his way out and it is an hour each way for me to get there now.
 
I just went this morning to my dentist, told me new policy is in place. It was before they would charge the insurance company directly but now i need to pay up front and then i need to submit the bills for reimbursement

That has pluses and minuses. You can generate a lot of credit card points running health care through a card.
 
I would think most dentists would be trustworthy, or not YMMV.

#1 on CC points , LOL . If i was a dentist and had to wait for Insurance payments, I'd be collecting from the public as well, you picked a lazy ins provider, you can wait.

They said the college board mandated the decision for all offices, maybe some still are not charging first

I don't understand how the competition board allows dentists to operate as they do. For god sakes, there is a published fee table and you get ***** slapped hard if you try to charge less than that rate. Pretty much the definition of abuse of a monopoly.

My daughters cat scratched my pugs eye 700 for a little dye and X-ray
 
I've got a good one, he can fill teeth without freezing and he never up-sells, super good guy
not telling you who he is, I don't want him to be too busy to see me.
 
Pet insurance, its a thing.

prior to pet insurance we spent 9K on ACL repairs for the same dog, 3K a shot , both back legs, one twice. Special food for his skin allergies, some dental work, dozen ear infections, related to allergies. Couple hot spot visits, one ER trip . He cost me 17grand and died at 6 of a heart condition.
He also chewed the leather steering wheel out of a brand new BMW in about 11 mins, ate a sofa arm when he was 12 weeks old, and swallowed an electronic key fob , Xray / ER visit......
I'd do it again.
 
Haha oh ya...dentists are no better or worse than any other profession. There's good and bad.

Was going to the same dentist for maybe 10-15 years or so. Never an issue with insurance, billing or anything. Then I noticed she was talking about retirement more often, and she 'needed' to see me more often...for more work than normal.

Then one day I mentioned that I'm leaving my job and will be going to a new one, her eyes lit up and she said I have 6 cavities in one shot to be done! WTF! I noped the hell out of there. I'm all for tooth health, but not to pay for her retirement income.

New guy is better as the old one sold the practice, Dundas and Dixie, no issues and he's been good so far. They bill the insurance, but we have to pay the remaining balance.
