Declined insurance after one year...

Anyone else get something similar? Or just me?
Was paying over $1000 for DL650.

Unfortunately, these types of decisions are made in a boardroom by a bunch of non-riding, bean counters who are just interested in their bottom line and year-end bonuses. It's got nothing to do with your driving record or risk factors.

Start getting quotes and pick the best deal but do it now. The worst thing is to procrastinate or waste time arguing with Aviva. Any amount of time lapsed without insurance coverage may cost you dearly.

I thought any lapse less than something like 30 days (60/90???) was disregarded and you were considered to have continuous coverage? Obviously you couldn't ride during whatever gap happened.

Everyone with under 6 years licensed got one, including myself. I found better rates through echelon compared to what I was paying with aviva.

Make sure you pull all other insurance you may have from Aviva, like home and auto etc. As much as it is their prerogative to pull insurance at their whim, so too is it yours to reward non-discriminatory insurers with the rest of your business.

They dumped me too, actually my broker gave me the heads up it was coming. I haven't received the letter yet. So I cancelled and went with echelon. Better rates than I was paying anyway.

here, here

Also was with Aviva and got non-renewed.(everyone with less than 6 years exp did) It's not a negative on your record or anything.

I too went to Echelon and my rate is less now than before. A lot less.

Well... That sorta is their raison d'etre Lol.

If riders with under six years weren't the ones crashing so much they probably would still be good with insuring them.
It's simply a numbers game and the numbers are all about money for the company and it's share holders.
Free market capitalism yo.

Not really, Insurance is a cartel market, not a free market. Insurers are protected by gov't regulations which should offer equal protection to the public.

Yeah, but... buying their product is a choice.
Like someone mentioned... You're free to take your (other) business, if you have any elsewhere if Aviva has cancelled your bike policy.
Sure, it's nice to find good ins. rates, but... they don't owe us anything.
'Not sure what the solution is, but... They're in it to make money and if they figure the <6years riders are costing them... Well, they're out.

Win some/Lose some... As a "mature" rider with more than 6 years exp. I enjoy a good rate and coverage from Aviva.
Cooperators on the other hand can go eat a bag of *****. They once jacked my rates by 50% on everything I had with them (Car/Bike/House).
Needless to say... I immediately took my ins. business elsewhere.

I got a letter from them (I’m underwritten by Aviva as well) and it basically said I was loosing some discount, but they continued the policy, just at a higher rate.

It’s still pretty good honestly, but it was ridiculously good before.

Really? Do you have less than 6 years since M2?

Aviva doesn’t like the CC’s on my bike - they rewrote their underwriting rules last year which is why when my wife went from the 650 to the 1100 last summer she had to move underwriters. She has only 3-4 years experience.

Plus I suspect they ran my record and finally saw a ticket that was on there. Which, ironically, cleared yesterday. But that’s another story.

Does Echelon insure ss? I looked at their website and they mentioned every type of bike except ss. It's 1:14am so I can't call them. Just curious if anyone knows. Thanks.

No. And most sport bikes over about 700ish.

FZ09 and FZ10 are an exception.

I have my VFR800 with Echelon. Granted it's a bit old though. It's not an SS but all insurance companies I've dealt with classify it under a Sport Bike.
