Decisions Decisions!! Kawasaki 250 Ninja VS ZZR 250

Hey guys,

I have pretty much decided on a Kawasaki 250. Now i am getting different reviews from different people regarding getting the older 2007-2006 ZZR 250 or the newer model which came out in 2008. The dealer i went to said the earlier model provides the same speed and everything with more utility i.e a better passenger seat and ability to carry, the newer model is just fancier in looks but nothing else.

Now i like the look on the newer bike, but then it compromises on utility like a better passenger seat etc. I am 5.8", 210 pounds. Wanting to use it for travelling and possibly riding friends and wife on the back.

Can someone out there with experience of both bikes give a better review and opinion on what should i buy?

Is money an issue? The older generation are cheaper to buy used.
Is reliability an issue? Older bikes may have been neglected while in storage.

If you want to take people for rides, look into getting a cruiser style bike. Those are comfy for long rides!

one of the deciding factors for me was that the pregens used a 16" wheel instead of the more popular 17", so there were fewer tire choices. That being said, I think the ZZR version of the pregen 250 might have the 17" wheels, but I'm not sure. Aside from that and the obvious styling differences, they are extremely similar bikes.

I had an 08, and have ridden the 07. Other than looks there's really not much difference. The ZZR has 17" wheels. It also has a softer seat for both the rider and passenger. If you can get it cheaper than the 08+ then I would say it's the way to go.

If you're going pre-gen, get the ZZR. Don't get the "regular."

But the 08+ model is likely a better choice. If you're gonna buy one, do it soon, as prices are likely to go up. Or grab an SV650 or Ninja 650.

Have you considered the new(ish) CBR 250? Single cylinder and fuel injected. I liked my 02 Ninja 250 but ended up having problems with it. I was also too big for it.
