DB levels at the races

It makes me laugh that the cops are targeting motorcycles for DB levels
I was at the start finish line at the races yesterday.
Got out the DB level meter.
12 bikes at redline limiter for the start.
The level never went over 87.

Most Sport bike aftermarket exhausts are designed to be under 91.

The jokes on them.

Wtf you talking about willis? Sound level changes with distance. A level without a distance (and preferably a direction/height) is almost meaningless. The Atlas V taking off is 87 dB too. You are quite a few miles away, but it's 87.

FWIW, since I assume Toronto is why you have your panties in a bunch. Toronto is roughly basing their enforcement on SAE J2825. The way that standard is written, unless you are actively trying to be a dick (GP exhaust or straight pipes), you should pass. Most aftermarket exhausts of normal size pass that standard easily.

Bylaw currently states: Under the Noise Bylaw, the noise from motorcycle exhaust outlets when idle, measured 50 cm away, should not exceed 92 dB(A) on a sound level meter.

Subject to change obviously.

Exactly. I doubt he was 50 cm from the bikes. Bikes weren't at idle. Multiple bikes were influencing his measurement. No idea on the capability/quality of the meter used. He measured something but it can't be compared to much.

Only been dB'd once, at an event at the Ganny. Took my stock can with me just in case, but my Pro Circuit Type 296 can passed with room to spare.

I was 2 feet away from the start finish line.
Approved DB meter.
Will get make and model number if you like. It was borrowed.

Multiple bikes would raise DB level.
Every bike was at the rev limiter for the start of the race

I use the meter on the 401 in rush hour, in my convertible
81 is the loudest I get

At VRRA they used to put a meter at start/finish AND at the part of the track where the bikes would be loudest (at Mosport; at the "hump" on the straight). It wasn't hard to pass the sound test.
When I raced dirt bikes, they sound tested the bike at tech, before the race. we would loosely pack the muffler with pink insulation... they would drop the green flag and at the exit to corner one, the first time you would hit redline: there was a cloud of pink fluffy stuff in the air and the DB level went up 20DB

...but yeah... horse power is not a function of noise, or visa versa
