Day in court missed :(

Looking for some advice here guys. I had to fight a traffic ticket in court on the 24th, I however for some reason thought it was the 29th :-( ( wrote it down wrong, been over 6 months since the conviction, and with school, ***** been hectic ). I had a great defense and everything, so this is such a horrible loss.

Anyway, asking to see what I can do from here. I was going to fight this ticket myself, but at this point is it possible to call up a paralegal and get my chance in court again instead of being instantly found guilty ?

Thanks.

**** the paralegal. depending on where you got charged go to the courthouse and file an appeal to have your case re-opened because you were not there and were convicted by default...

This is an example of the Toronto form, it should be similar just about everywhere

If you want a good excuse, Jan 24th was bitter cold, just tell em your battery died preventing you from making it. There were countless people with dead batteries these past couple weeks.

If it's been six months do you know what happened? Maybe the cop didn't show up and the whole thing got flushed.

Not for traffice tickets... he'll get charged still for not showing up himself
Yea, file an appeal and give them a good reason why you missed the 24th court date.

Has it been 6 months since the ticket or conviction?? If its 6 months since a conviction how the hell did you just remember about it now?? You need to get you facts straight...if you don't even know that I don't even wanna know what type of defense you had planned

There ya go, lie under oath!

How about some accountability, instead of lying to open a case costing more tax dollars?

Rather adversarially stated, but essentially correct. Uttering false statements to a court is not the way you want to go. Spin is one thing. Lies are another, altogether.

I had the exact same thing happen once, went to defend, wrote down wrong day. This was about 10 years ago so my memory is a bit hazy, but because I was convicted, I only had a day or two to pay the fine, which I didn't because of the mistake. I know I ended up with a court ordered suspended drivers licence and had to pay over $100 on top of the fine to have my licence reinstated. Find out if you're still able to ride/drive legally.

Thanks for the advice guys. Went and got it appealed, set for March, better make this one lol.
