Hey all.

Currently doing a cylinder head gaskets on a 02 Nissan Xterra.

I heard you can send the cylinder heads to a machine shop with the valve train and the camshaft still in it. Is that true?

Please tell me it's true I'm a flat rate tech, and if I can send the heads away with all the parts still in it it will save me a lots of time!!

Mechanics thanks for all your help in advance!!

When I send out my bike motor heads, I leave the valves and springs in place. The shop has all the tools to remove and install them, I don't.

why would you send them out assembled? pays extra as a flat rate tech to disassemble.

i would leave the valves and pull the cams off before they were sent out. unless the machine shop want them assembled, might be good to call and see what works best for the shop there going to.

depends on what you want done to them...

i've had heads i left fully intact sent out to be decked, but anything more than that and they'll want them bare or they'll charge you an arm and a leg to do it for you.
