CYCLEWORLD used bikes?

Hallo good people,

Wonder if anyone has any experience with getting a bike from Cycleworld Superstore on Sheppard/McCowan. Gary has been super awesome, knowledgeable, and supportive.
But how are the bikes themselves? From my research, the bike may have been at CW for about 2 years now. Not sure what type of preventative maintenance they do for storage, but should it be a concern?

I have a very specific bike in mind that sells very quickly on Kijiji. I know private sales are cheaper but the financing option from CW is an added bonus for me.

Thanks for your input.

Thanks for the insight everyone! Yeah, there have been too many red flags looking at this specific bike and even speaking with the financing company. Regardless of how I choose to pay, I care more about the status of the bike. Maybe these are signs to stay patient. I'll eventually have enough cash for a private sale. I'm just so eager to ride it's clouding my judgement hahah.
Cheers everyone! Ride Safe

I personally would never buy a bike from there. They are pretty sketchy and I'm pretty sure they don't do anything to protect their bikes during storage.

They used to be Motorcycle Superstore on River. I wouldn't buy a bike from them then, probably wouldn't now. Too bad they bought the name and confuse ppl., but guess that's exactly why they bought it.

just like anywhere else, you get what you pay for,ask for some sort of guarantee,if none is offered go else where.

THE MECHANIc's supervisor took a look at my bike and said - sir get this thing outta my property. I cannt help you....very nice and helpfull...

good luck with your shopping there :)

I bought my first bike from Gary he was nice price was fairly high picked up the bike it wouldn't start after there mechanic changed the spark plugs etc I was able to ride off long story short after a well deserved oil change engine died 2months later ?

My last bike was from GP (99 zx6r), crashed that last Jun. I needed a new ride and ended getting a bike from Scarborough Cycle World, Gary dropped it off end of Jan, took it for a spin today...all good, happy with the bike & service so far.

Not much of a warranty though, 30 days, said starting when riding season starts, so not to specific.....

Their financing is 3rd party, company called CARFII (I think). Look that up so you have the whole picture.

GP gave a 6 month power train....

If you need to finance a bike, you probably shouldn't be riding.
Wha? What does financing a bike have to do with riding?

I wouldn't buy from them, I had a bad experience with them awhile back, have never stepped foot in that place since.

Financing a toy is financially stupid.

I don't see how financing a bike is wrong. if you want to get into something and you don't have the cash save saved up, then financing is the way to go. Financing a toy like a boat, bike, or a classic car is huge business. It wouldn't be my choice, but it is obviously offered for a reason.

Sub prime mortgages were offered for a reason too.

Can't save up $2500 to buy a used bike outright? What happens when a noob does something dumb and falls down? Can't afford to repair the bike, too scared to submit an insurance claim, bike not worth anything to sell.... park it and continue making payments.

Good plan.

That would be their choice. Either way, you lose. You're making payments or you blew all the money that you spent months saving up. If you don't have a choice, it's a lose-lose situation.
But it's the risk you take if you really want something.

But according to ninja 300 owners you can ride the bike and resell it for the Msrp plus the financing costs, that's why so many are selling for $6500 when they are new for 4700.
You cannot bother advising people to not finance toys, it's the start of a lifetime of debt and the reason why debt loads are the highest in CDN history....meanwhile you can't even give away a slightly older bike in the GTA because people are scared now of oil changes.

Financing a used bike is a really bad idea the rates are terrible. You're better off saving up, and buying it outright. However, when buying new manufacturers can offer very competitive rates from 0% to 1.9% APR. Assuming you are saving your money in a TFSA and have it something that makes 5-10% (ETF, stocks, mutual fund) would it make sense to draw out that lump sum??? With that being said if you're living pay cheque to paycheque and transferring credit card balances around, than you should not be buying a bike either.

^^this is logical advice. Only thing that may play a factor is if said motorcycle is sole means of transportation and therefore not a "toy".
Years ago we thought of buying a Kia Forte. Asked what the cash price would be. He said it was 0% financing. My wife said so? I don't want payments. He says - not to know your business, but if you have that $ and you have a mortgage, make a lump sum payment and finance the car. Pretty genius, pretty obvious, yet overlooked by many. (over a reasonable time, of course 48 months, for example. Wouldn't want the car crapping out and still having payments.) Ended up not getting the Kia.
Heard nothing but good about GP, but I've never been.

never buy a bike from there, my Friend from India came was looking for a 300 they financed him a 125CC with 120k on it for 4,000$!!!! do not trust this company i will never do business there and tell everybody to stay away!

When he went to pick up the 125, the stupid thing didn't even start when he went to start it to take it home. garbage people, garbage mechanics, took advantage of a new comer here in Canada.
