Custom - Tax

Question about custom Tax....

Friend of mine order a bunch of hoodies from the US (Around 100) for his business (GF told custom it was personal)

Customs called and asked if it is personal or business related...

Is there a tax difference?

If it's for a business and he/she gets caught there will be AMPS penalties. Not something to fool around with.

Tax is the same technically. But the CBSA isn't one I'd want to tangle with if I imported goods regularly for business.

different textiles have different importation tax rates, cotton vs polyester.
Claiming 100 hoodies that are logo'd as personal, that right there sounds plenty goofy. You'll probably hear more from Cdn Customs.

+1
an individual don't just use 100 hoodies of the same kind

oh well...too late to go back on it now...

I will see what her outcome going to be...

hope she does not get ****ed over too badly

Not much she can do now, but I'd say the agency will keep a closer eye on the business in the future.

It'd be her own doing. But she might get by. Not a huge deal in the grand scheme.

This is likely to happen if she does this more than once.
