Cops Lights on, no one pulling over! -

So this morning I am going along Eglington and see a cop ahead with his emergency lights no (no siren). Hes in the center lane and going 60km (speed limit there) - he not behind any car - infact probably had 3 car lengths to the next car in front of him.. I watch this for a couple blocks.. no one in front is pulling over, and everyone behind him is speeding up and passing on the right!! - WTF? Eventually around Eglington Square I think he took a left turn. When I pass I notice theres like 2 officers in the vehicle.

I'm taking a guess he may have forgotten or mistakenly put the lights on, but in anycase it was amazing to see no one pay attention to him - goes to show how many people really check mirrors or aware of whats around them.

I wish I had a video camera - it was priceless.

yeah, i had a cop parked at the end of my street once waiting for people to roll through the stop sign...i bet for a while he was wondering why people were coming to a full stop since he didn't know he had his lights going on the top of his car...sometimes they just forget, usually the rookies...but hey, i see enough riders with their damn blinker going and not turning...lol

yeah, thats a dangerous one.. Done this a few times. Luckily cars around me figured it out and didnt pull infront of me.

On a side-note.. In many countries around the world, the cherries being on just means to be cautious.. The combination of the cherries and siren indicates that you have to stop.

On one of my trips I'm in some town somewhere, going in the left lane, slowly passing some cars. I see a rider coming from the other direction, so I wave, and he gives me a look... Then, with a corner of my eye I catch something flashing in my rear view mirror. I think "oh great.." and I begin to pull over to the right. The cops give me a look as they pass and speed away... :p

The cops can choose which lights are on...sounds like in this case, only the rear facing lights were on (hence nobody in front was pulling over), but still probably forgot about them.

Alternatively, if it is a training officer on board with a newbie (not likely...haven't hired this year), then could be showing the kid that even with the lights on, there are still lots of people out there who will ignore the warning.

Is that right? So if a cop is behind you with his cherries on, you dont have to pull over? If you dont, can they issue you a ticket for failure to stop?

That is not true in THIS country.

Probably fell asleep in the patrol car and missed shift turn over, so they were trying to get back to the station quickly and discretely.

I heard on the news today that they have some sort of safety blitz going on this week. They will be looking out for people who don't pull over when an Emergency vehicle has their lights on. They will also be on the lookout for people who don't move over a full lane (I'm assuming in places with there are lanes availble) when an Emergency vehicle is pulled over at the side of the road.

So I am wondering if what the OP noticed today was actually part of the safety blitz ,a actual emergency or not knowing the lights were on.

In (all of, afik) North America, cherries mean stop, siren or no siren. That's why I've been getting weird looks from my (Euro) dad and my (South American) wife when I pulled over when a cop caught up with me with his cherries on (in a South American country). That might have brought more popo scrutiny on me as well, but they decided to just keep going, probably thinking "gringo loco, no le vamo a molestar ahora"

No, not that bliz - normally they do it on roads where the polie car is pulled over and theres intercept vehicles up the road waiting to see what your reaction is when you pass.

Anyway, what this prove to me is that a lot of people have no clue on what's happening around them when driving .
