Coolant Question

I recently changed the coolant in my 2011 Suzuki GSX-R750 to Motul Motocool Factory Line pre-mix. I decided on this product over the Motocool Expert, thinking the Factory Line represents Motul's top-tier line of products.

I did an extensive flush of my previous coolant using distilled water, and followed Suzuki’s change procedure very closely to ensure no air remained in the system. Since the coolant change, I have noticed a change in the operating temperature behaviour of my bike. On higher-speed, clean air country rides (air temp around 25C), the observed coolant temperature is in the 82-85C range, much as it was using the previous coolant. However, when riding at slower speeds, especially following other vehicles (no “clean” air), I’m finding that the observed coolant temperature is consistently higher than before, often in the 100-105C range (where the cooling fan activates).

My question is this….would the Expert be a better coolant for this application, or was my original thinking correct in that Factory Line is Motul's “best” coolant? Should OAT coolants in general even be used in my Suzuki, and are the cooling properties of OAT coolants essentially the same as IAT coolants?

I did not know coolant would make a difference, coolant has a higher boiling point and lower freezing point and it's why we use it instead of water, all the other stuff added is to protect the aluminum from corrosion, but I did not know it changes the temperatures....

I have a feeling you might have air in the system, and it's the cause of the issue your describing......

just a thought...

There is no way switching from one good coolant to another is going to result in a 20C difference in coolant temperature. Something else is going on.

Not saying there is a 20C difference on average.....it's just the slow-speed riding is consistently higher. Although I did my best to eradicate air from the system, it was my first time doing a coolant change on this bike.

How recently did you change the coolant and notice the fan coming on more often? It did just get warmer recently...

First ride of the season on Sunday. Compared to previous hot weather riding (30C+), it is running warmer. Could still be air in there, despite my best efforts.

You did something wrong I use both those coolants regularly and never notice a difference in running temp between both of them...One is yellow one is orange that is the biggest difference

After another ride, my concerns are much ado about nothing. This ride consisted mostly of higher speed clean air country riding.....81-85C on average. When riding in traffic in town, I was seeing higher temps, but nothing to worry about. Stop and go, it runs up to 105C and the fan kicks in. Back to the clean air, it drops pretty quickly back to 82-85C. So, in short......never mind.
