Conviction without trial

Back in March I was coming home, stopped at the last stop sign and then proceeded. Cruiser turned cherries on, stopped me and gave me ticket for disobeying traffic sign. He also told me he got it on video. At this point I calmed down and was very happy to hear it as I was stopped for good 20 sec if not more so I took the ticket, went to court house the next day and submitted for trial (I have offence slip, stamped). Now one month later I got notice of conviction in the mail - how is that possible to be convicted without trial? I will go to court house tomorrow/fri to sort it out but would appreciate if anyone had same experience and what did you do.

My *guess* is your paperwork either didn't get filed or was "misplaced". You can only be convicted if you didn't show up for trial and everyone else (cop) was there.

take your stamped slip and ask for proof that a trial date was set AND sent to you as you haven't received anything since you filed it.

My thoughts exactly

What is the penalty $ $ ? are there points involved.. ?
$115 but amount does not matter. I am religious about Stop signs, especially in my neighborhood - lots of kids, older people walking, dog owners (I have two dogs myself and nothing is more annoying when some jerk is trying to get through intersection without stopping just as you start to cross it). So i always stop at stop signs, never rolled through one.

All cleared up - they made copy of original stamped offence notice and told me they will file it. I also got email from the court services asking for the copy - scanned and emailed. Hopefully that's will be end of it

I'd check in a few months again just to make sure. My gf's father just recently found out his license has been suspended for 3 years because they mixed up some paperwork. Could have ended up very badly for him if he had gotten caught driving with a suspended license. He also has to go through the entire graduated licensing process again and because the testers think he lost it either for drunk driving or being a way ****** driver or something, they're being extra tough on him.

For example, he failed his last test because when he parallel parked (which he did perfectly) they told him he didn't look behind enough.

Good idea - will do

so , your saying it is the insurance increase to worry about? I didn't think a "disobey sign" was a problem wrt insurance, or points..

for sure it does!!!

Once the trial date is set, he can get the video footage when he requests for disclosure.

You really think the cop was telling the truth?
Obviously someone is lying, and I am pretty sure the cop isnt going to submit a video of the OP stopped at the stop sign for 20 secs as evidence.

Well, we'll wait and see.
