I'm new to riding this year

I purchased a ninja 250 at the beginning of the season to learn on but i can feel myself quickly outgrowing the bike

Im shorter at 5'6 and im not sure what the next logical step in the chain of bikes would be

Ive been looking at the yamaha fz5r and the ninja 650r

I also had a friend tell me to look at the gsxr600 because its very light and has a short seat height

Id love your guys opinion on where and what i should be looking at

thanks

As always, the first answer will be: If you're considering a SS i.e. the Gixxer, can you afford insurance?
Are you over 25 years of age?

yes im 25 years old

I got an insurance quote on a 600 sport bike and it was only a couple hundred bucks more a year then my 250 is

At 5'6" I don't think that you've outgrown the bike. I'm 6'1" and can fit on one of those bikes.

Are you planning on getting into trials, or was that just a fun name?

If you feel the need to buy a new bike, then go with whats comfortable to you in regards to seat height, bike weight etc. At the same time always keep in mind it's not the size of the bike that makes you go fast, it's about the skill of the rider. Hope you find a good buy. Good luck.

Don't forget the SV. It's a great bike and more than fast enough for any street riding.

I got a lowered 2004 yzf600r that im getting rid off by the end of next week. 21,000k. It worked well for me, it might sit well with you too. Cheap on insurance since it is not SS. It looks and handles like an SS bike. Really stable on the highway because of its weight. I got two bikes and i need to get rid of one.

Come riding with me, LoneRonin or knowledge on your 250, then judge whether or not you've "outgrown" your 250.

After 1 season, I sincerely doubt this. But to each their own.

Got bored of is a scarier way of putting it.

How long is it between trials bikes?

maybe outgrown was the wrong term

To answer your actual question, it really depends on what you're looking for. If you use your motorcycle mostly for commuting or long trips, you don't really want an SS. In that case, a decent sport touring motorcycle is a good bet. My suggestions would be:

1. FZ6
2. SV650
3. Ninja 650
4. FZ6R

If you do a lot of twisties, an SS is a good choice, except for the fact that any decent twisties in Ontario require a fair amount of straightline riding. This is why I prefer something like a sport tourer, but if you want an SS, Gixxers or CBRs seem to be the most common choice. Frankly, you won't be able to tell the difference between any SS in most of your riding, until you start to push it really hard (which should really only be done on the track). Flat-footing the bike shouldn't be a huge concern, as you only really need one foot down. But if this is an issue with you, then yes, the gixxer likely has the lowest seat height. Check out www.cycle-ergo.com to check out a huge array of bikes and how they would fit you.

Personally, I'm trying to decide between a Speed Triple or a DRZ400SM for my next street bike. I want the SM to do stupid **** like this:
