Condo Retards

If the bolt cutters in post #60 can snap these monster chains, then that's what the thieves are using. They would not take a chance on the noise of a grinder. Perhaps Bluestreak or any other company that sells these monster chains could demonstrate if they could hold up to bolt cutters with that length of leverage.

Post #60 is a must watch for all. As someone correctly wrote, "to beat a thief, you must think like a thief." Seeing them lurk in the night (post # 60) shows you what's going on while you're fast asleep.

@Sushi All you need is a pole. If you don't have a pole, you could request to move your spot to a pole. But if theses chains don't hold up against the bolt cutters seen in post #60, your efforts will be for nothing.

One other deterrent I've come up with is a personal alarm for $20 You hook the strap to the bike cover, and the personal alarm to the bike. These things squeal at 120 decibels. Thief pulls on cover, personal alarm is tripped. 120 decibels is louder than a Jardine pipe! It's deafening!

Smear your bike in feces and leave 8 lavender scented $1000 bills next to your bike, and the bike should be safe.

If you are talking about condos your parking spot is defined in your ownership. ie suite 137 gets parking spot P104. Management can't move people around. If you are planning to buy a condo, check the parking spot because you are stuck with it unless you can somehow arrange a private deal with another owner.

You don't own the parking spot. It is usually a common element to which you have exclusive use. You have no right to drill or modify it any more than you have the right to dril or modify the front lobby.

Tneed to sign up for a year, $30 a month plus activiation fee etc etc. Up to 1 report per 5 seconds.
there's lots of GPS options that use very low power and could be left for 4 months without killing the battery.
All thieves use a simple $20 GPS blocker, plugs in the cigarette lighter socket of their van, kills all GPS signals within 300ft. A GPS tracking system, unless it gives you a discount on your insurance, is useless.

The best way to secure your bike? Insurance. Sure it sucks, but it's WAY better then worrying all the time if your bike is still downstairs!

I believe they like to be referred to as mentally disabled. I wouldn't blame the victim though. That's like saying she deserved it because of what she was wearing....

Try to keep your blame on the person who does the crime, not the victims.

even in my reply where I mention them getting caught due to GPS it's still another comment as to how they are useless. meh. do as you wish, your property.

I have no doubt they use a blocker in the van.

here's how it works in my mind. GPS tracker on bike, theives steal bike and use blocker, maybe it works, maybe it doesn't (THEY ARE NOT 100%!) theives pull out battery, car is out of van, and parked in garage to be parted.
gps tracker is running on spare battery, hidden in bike, and now unblocked.

IMHO frankly if they were smart they'd be making 90k+/yr instead of having to steal bikes to make 60 (after division amongst crew).

To the guy who posted this thread, how many retards are out there who have never heard of a chain-cutter or a gasoline-powered Quik-Cut? The product in those links of yours are useless against these things.

Locking a bike up is a great idea but there's not much you can do if the thief is determined. About 10 years ago a buddy of mine went down to his chained, locked, and alarmed Honda ST100 to find that it had been stripped naked. The dirtbag thieves simply left the chain alone, didn't mess with the ignition to trip the alarm, and managed to remove almost all the bodywork in about 20 minutes. The only thing he had left on his bike was the tail-light. The insurance company wrote it off as the cost of the bodywork (including Corbin seat) and the wiring harnesses that were cut (why unplug something when you can simply cut through the wire) was worth much more than replacing the bike. As I recall one saddlebag alone was worth about $1000 at the Honda dealer.

The best part - the idiot next door neighbour saw the whole thing and assumed the two guys were just working on the bike.

This was when I was living in Vancouver, which back then (and probably now) was the Vehicle B&E capital of Canada. In the space of 8 years there my car was broken in to about a half-dozen times.

Ride safe,
Daryl

I have no financial interest in Bluestreak. The company was mentioned as a source in this GTAM thread:

http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...-Motorcycle-Anchor-Like-No-Other-Design/page2

This guy seems to know chains, and where to get one that's effective. He writes about a demonstration on how hard they are to break, grind, burn (plasma torch). My only interest is to see GTA condo riders smarten up, and chain up. If that takes a little coaxing by referring to them in a certain manner, then so be-it. It's not meant as literal as I've written, just to bring attention to the up and coming summer theft season. Get ahead of it, and don't be a victim!

I recommend anyone who cares, to watch the videos of bikes being stolen in post # 60. Somehow seeing it happen hits home, angers, and motivates.

I wonder how the blue streak chain of mine will stand up to this 18 volt saw.
