Hey, thank for taking a momento to read this. Upon start up my system tells me that I need to download Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 and there is a link to the site. The link takes me here http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/default.aspx but this is bloody vague as it doesn't just take me to the software I need. I type in the item that I need and I have dozens of choices. What the hell do I do?

I'm running Windows 7 but don't know what version.

You've got a different problem. Windows 7 comes with .NET Framework 3.5 ... so something's up. Is that all the message says? Nothing about the name of the program it's associated with?

Twisted is correct the Win 7 you have should have Framework 3.5 installed. Try downloading the 3.5 service pack from the following link, it updates 3.5 and retro updates 2 as well. If when you try to install it for some reason it says 3.5 or any other version not detected, just download the full version of either 3.5 (or 4 which is out now). It won't hurt your system to reinstall it.

Here is the 3.5 service pack link:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=25150

this is the page on microsofts site which lists all the available versions:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/search.aspx?q=net framework&p=1&r=20&t=947

Could you have an OLD app that is looking for 2.0? I had something like that with one of my XP machines. Old app looking for older version of .NET. IIRC, it wouldn't work with a newer version or somethng, so had to find an old version, remove current and install old.

The correct answer is buy a mac, you won't have that problem ever again. :D

ya and pay twice as much for an operating system that doesn't run 95% of the software out there. Ya... great suggestion. Might as well tell him to run Ubuntu. That way he doesn't need to buy a new computer.

Thanks to all that responded. Rice, I found that the problem is associated with my printers software "productivity suite". I don't need the software to run the printer. Maybe I can find an updated software version from the printer manufacturer so it is compatible with windows.

.NET 2.0 is also required for some ATI catalyst software, so it happens, heck, i have apps that still require 1.1 to be installed to run...good luck on the printer stuff...

Since 96% of the software out there is garbage, it's a win, win situation.

I think that the view most PC manufacturers seem to take is that the things are disposable and will be supporting refuse in a land fill in 5 years anyway.

Ya, you're right... I hate choice... I'd rather be told what to run on my computer.

just use the printer driver and not the suite and all will be well.

the printer was working but gave me a bit of trouble. Every time I started up I got an annoying error message that drove me to drink. I downloaded the updated software package from Lexmark, all is good now. Cheers!
