Colts release Peyton Manning.

it's like when Joe Montana was released from the 49ers back in the early 90's.

It happens every few years where in this salary cap era, you just can't afford to keep players.

He claims to end it with the Colts. Start - Finish Career.

However, it would be great if went to the Jets for a season or two.

Smart business move. I wouldn't want to pay out a 28 million bonus for him either in light of thing's.

Well, they're getting Andrew Luck..Luck's agent says he doesn't want to be a #2 QB..Manning is busted to some degree and I'm not sure if it's been decided he can actually take contact. End of an era..what a great QB.

I want to see him in Miami! I wonder if he will choose a team that has a indoor stadium like Indy

The Colts are dreaming if they think Luck will lead them like Manning did. Expect the Colts to get a number 1 pick for the next few years.

end of an era, easily on of the top 5 QB in history... this season's struggles to indie are a testament to how much they relied on this play calling.

that's true, but it worked out perfectly for the colts.

manning gives them a great run at QB including a superbowl.
he gets injured, and the colts stink. they finish at the bottom and are able to draft another potential franchise quarterback.
the injury gives indy an out of that crazy 20+ million signing bonus.

I think they would have been better of with Manning as a mentor for a few years. But you never know. Draft picks are a crap-shoot..look at that zero who went in the same draft as Manning..

Day and night difference to say the least. Read a quick bio of what happened to the #2 pick that year and just...wow....

I think, going in, Leaf and Manning were considered nearly equal. Manning I think was picked because of his dad. Leaf went second and he has to be considered a bust. But he could easily have gone first. Just saying, Andrew Luck looks good but you never know how he'll turn out.

It was a back and forth between Leaf and Manning; Leaf was pegged as the better athlete (stronger arm, physicality, etc) but Manning was deemed 'more mature', and to say Archie didn't have a hand in that, well, I have some swamp land in Florida I can sell ya...

The Mannings' success also paved the way for Eli and I think gave him a better boost than if he didn't have the name behind him.

Good article on Manning. Looks like the contact won't be an issue at all if the fusion heals fully. The nerve damage and resulting loss in arm strength is the problem. I'm thinking he'll be back if the fusion healed..Peyton Manning at less than his best is still pretty darn good.
