I'm going to have a lot of fun with this. And I'm looking for Chris Chilton. Anyone have any contact info?

I'd rather spend the air time in this. :DGrob G-102 Single Astir CS-77 - Untitled | Aviation Photo #0160807 | Airliners.net
If you are jumping from the place near Arthur take a demo ride in one of the sailplanes. They'll let you fly it. Skydiving never appealed but getting my pilots licence sure did....and I did.

This looks expensive lol!

EDIT: Less than some LEGO sets I’ve bought at $170 or $225/flight depending on the option you want.

It's not - the club is all volunteer....all your training is volunteer and you end with a solo pilot licence that can be fairly easily moved to a power licence tho the additional training and cost of plane rental is expensive.

Intro rates have gone up to $190 from $100 when I was flying.

Tows have gone from $20-30 to $45-$80.

30 flights which you need for solo runs $1700 for the series including, instruction, plane rental and tow ....= bargain compared to many sports.

My single Grob they've sold for a twin as it's such a lovely demo flight machine. You can camp at the field and if you work at it take a 2 week vacation and come out with your solo licence.

Yearly membership runs $700 now - double what it was.
You can even get an aerobatic intro flight for $290.

You do have to spend some hours as a club member helping with getting planes out and ready, running the wing, pushing them back from landings ( tho that's mostly towed back now. )
Great community - about half of the members are professional pilots who come to actually fly instead of drive a bus. ( fly an airliner )
Get there at 6 am and spend the day with very nice people. Clubhouse is great too....even when I stopped flying I spent time there as a motorcycle destination ....decent wifi and kitchen.
Treat yourself...this is a decent time of year but you have to look at the forecast for ideal conditions.
I took a demo flight with Barbara Turnbulls dad - got hooked and was solo in 5 weeks. One of my life goals answered and I had a few very satisfying years getting 40-50 hours in the air each season.
You move up in flight goals and most days you fly either for 1 hour or 2 hours split. Then you get a cross country flight - 50 km between airports and also endurance which is 5 hours. I fortunately caught a day in Arizona and got my diamond climb which is to 10,000 ' - pulled off the tow plane at 900' and climbed like a hawk to 14,000 - could have gone higher but there are limits without oxygen.

They expect to get much higher in the near future with pressurized cockpits.
Distance record I think is something like 1600 miles.

( sis and b-in-law are lego nuts )

My best friend has started soaring/ glider at SOAR just south of Cambridge , it’s a pretty impressive setup and a really good group of people. You can get in cheap and then spend to the moon if you wish . Flight two weeks ago he saw Georgian bay , Lake Huron and Erie on the same ride . Once your good you can stay up a long time

And the weather is convective...there have been 300 km triangle flights in Ontario but it's really tough as the lakes kill the lift and max ceiling is about 10.000' ...I;ve only once been above 9,000. Ate my lunch circling in a nice thermal in the Grob which is very quiet.
You also need a 17m lead sled with water in the wings to get distance instead of the regular 15m.
Used to sneak up on slow single seater powered heading into Toronto and flash by on the Lark which had negative flaps and could really boogie and could kill you on final turn. Really liked to spin but what a hoot to fly.

Just be aware that if you don’t catch a thermal your flight could be less than 5 mins. I’ve had that a few times. My flights were free but if you’re paying that might sting. More of a problem with a catapult/winch launch.

That's almost impossible on a 2,000' tow....it could however be 10-15 minutes and if you want to be safe buy a 4,000' tow but best is to chose a decent day with light winds and puffy clouds starting at 11 or so.
The day after a storm front moves through is often ideal and gradually gets less so as an inversion sets it.

Yeah catapult launch very iffy and not something I've ever done or even condone....too easy to fall out as you indicated.
