Collision Estimates

So fiance and I were involved in a accident. Both bikes (600rr and 250r) are damaged and are at a collision shop. The collision shop is having a hard time making damage estimate for the insurance co. Apparently Honda and Kawi aren't co-operating with parts prices. The insurance Co. and collision shop want the bikes taken to a bike repair shop to do the estimate and work.. Anyone involved in a accident have this problem? Doesn't a adjuster come to see the bikes and determine if they are repairable or written off? we are in Brampton. Anyone suggest a shop to do the estimate/work?

Repairs like that are usually dont at a bike shop, not a collision shop.

Really the best way to do it would be to have the bikes at a Honda/Kawi dealer. They can go over the bike, itemize what's been damaged and needs to be replaced then provide parts and labour estimates.

Let me guess the tow truck driver took them back to the collision shop affiliated with his towing company? If so get it out of there ASAP and get it to a good bike shop.....Ive done Honda and Kawi insurance claims, neither should take more then 1-2 days to get a quote to insurance...

We have also had to take over an insurance claim from a towing company in the exact situation...Generally they have no business trying to fix bikes...They dont even have accounts with the bike manufactures in most cases...This just makes it take super long

The adjuster will not normally show up, untill there is a quote ready for him to compare with his numbers....When I do this I am generally within %5 of his value he gets from his computer program....Then they decide if its going to be fixed or written off....

+1

Bring it to a bike shop asap.

honda and kawi should not even be involved in the conversation.

the shop your bikes are at should be able to pull up all the parts damaged needing repair and give an estimate from that.

if the shop is unable to do so, that is not a good sign.
move the bikes to a better shop.
one that can look at the bikes, look the damages and come up with a figure.

saying that the manufactures are slowing them down or not cooperating just dont sound right to me.

any mechanic or shop worth their salt would be able to tell you roughly what the damage would cost, with in a tolerable amount.

to make a long answer longer..... find a different shop.
sorry to hear about your situation.

Unless the shop is actually a Honda and Kawi dealer, then they need to call a dealer for the prices....So by manufacturer Im sure they mean dealer that is slowing it down....By not getting back to them with the ACTUAL prices right away...

You cant guesstimate the rough cost, you need exact prices....If you under quote its your problem, and you will have to pay the difference. If you over quote they will reject you, and you are black listed from doing any insurance jobs for that company again (statefarm)

Statefarm adjuster had a computer and desk in the back of his van, I hand him the list of parts and prices (that I get from the dealer) as well as the labor cost to install all the parts...He takes that into his van and 20 min later come out with his own print out...Their system has rough prices for parts, and also give a time required to install...You have to be close to their computer systems estimate or they can reject you as a shop to do the work...

The problem is when your a car shop that doesnt have an account and or never bought anything from that dealer, and your calling in with a list of 20-40 different parts. They dont get back to you right away.....However a BIKE shop like mine that has a good relationship with the dealers, and has done a few insurance quotes already, and has also spend a crap load of money at the dealer already...Well we generally get the quotes back faster then some random car collision shop.....

Ive had to deal with this also from the shops perspective, so it does happen.....Suzuki of Brampton would not return my request for prices for over a week. Before I decided to go to another dealer and got them the same day....And I understand why, the quote was over $8000 in parts and it was very obvious we were not going to order the parts...We just needed a quote anyways......Some would say its their job and they should do it right away no matter what, but I kinda understand why they wont just drop everything to quote 40 parts that are never going to be ordered....

And I give part numbers, just imagine a car shop calling with just names of parts....Where they actually have to go through the fiche and find all the part numbers then the prices....ughhh that can take forever!

When I crashed my bike I took it back to the dealer and had a quote within a few days. With no problems.

basically what i was trying to say, you just said it way WAY WAY better.

cheers. lol

Definitely get the bike to a bike shop. A car shop simply doesn't have a clue, when it comes to motorcycles. The best mechanic that I know, Mark Ferriera, is at Brampton Powersports on Van Kirk, in north Brampton. It's a new shop but, judging by the staff I've recognized there, they'll do good work.

*EDIT* and they're Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki dealers, so will be able to quote on the necessary parts.
