Any recommendations for good charities to donate clothing to? I've got a ton of it, and it's a shame to throw out as majority of it is either worn a handful of times, or none at all.

Not worth dealing with Kijiji/ FBMP for sale of this and the riff raff.

Ideally a men's charity instead of Value Village who will take the clothing and just re-sell it at a profit with (In my understanding) minimal going to actual charity.

For suits, there are some organizations that help people get ready for interviews. For warm stuff, shelters are normally interested. Normal clothes are harder to get to somewhere helpful. If my wife has good stuff we give boxes of it to a friends teenage kid. They don't have much money and are a little smaller. Anything they don't want, they are free to gift/sell/donate.

We try to give away to family and friends also. Unfortunately I'm on the smaller side so not many people in the family are my size as they're larger (both vertically and horizontally) so not many to give to.

I'll send out a note to some friends and family and if anyone else wants to join in, I'll pick up a few packages and take them as a single unit to some place.

I have been trying to give away some of my business causal clothes now that I am WFH for eons....

+1 for shelters or places like Haven--business hours only (Queensway) for items that are in good shape. For stuff that is worn out there are actually still places that take it for other uses, but that takes some searching around.

Regrettably, we far too often just put it in a donation box being lazy, they don't always go to good causes...

Thank you! I just came back to GTAM to ask about donating to Ukraine as I know you both supported it very well.
Look into donating to the Polish flood victims. Huge flood in Poland several weeks ago.
I will try to send some stuff as well.

Great call! I know at Max Kolbe last time we went they were calling only for brand new clothes / shoes. Nothing used.

If you see anything let me know and I'll get stuff ready from here.

Sure will. And if you know of anything, let me know.

I was surprised that they were only wanting brand new.........

They’re Polaks. I’m sure the people would be happy, but the church said new only.
My wife was weary about sending them as she didn't think it will end up in the right/needing hands.

How about St. Vincent De Paul? I believe the goods go directly to people in need, rather than being sold first. Most Catholic churches used to have a bin in their parking lot, but it's been a while.

With the one I mentioned (Diabetes Assoc'n), all you need to do is put the clothes in a garbage bag, tape a piece of paper with a large "D" on it and they'll send a truck over on a designated day - put it on the front porch the morning of and that's all there is to it.

Me too. Some of it gets recycled as clothing, some gets repurposed as shop rags and the like. Either way nothing is wasted.

Awesome thanks everyone for the tips! Appreciate it.

As a side effect...didn't even consider taking old t-shirts and making them into rags! I wouldn't donate them as they're too worn...but as shop rags they'll do great.

City of Markham has clothing drop off bins everywhere. They sort and distribute to first to shelters, then registered partner charities.
