going south on Mcowan jsut passed Ellesmere, pushed the bike up to 100km from the red (jsut to have a bit of fun), looked back and the cars were quite a ways away. slow down to about 70 or 80 after about 8 secs of going fast. cruised at 70 for a bit then decided to change lanes to the right. check my mirror, nothing, shoulder check (even though i know no one should be behind me after that launch) nothing. i begin to merge right and as im doing this i see a headlight IN my mirror go from the bottom of the mirror to the top and beyond in less then half a sec (this means the guys waas going waaay faster than me and was right in my blindspot/almost right beside me) at this point my tire was already a a foot into his lane. Right away i snapped my bike to the left as fast as i could, as i did this i could her the car chirp its tire ffor a split sec. i straightened out and gave the driver a "my bad" wave, he smiled and nodded. at the next red he floored it again as i continued slowly on my way thinking how lucky i was.

soo im still not sure where he came from, i assume he was prolly at the red with me from ellesmere and started gunning it since then, because my bike accelrates faster he was prolly still really far away when i looked back.

my mirror is set to see my 4/5 o clock and my 6 if i decide to move my head a lil to the left to get a wider angle. is this how most people have it? obliviously if i checked my 6 this prolly woulda been avoided, plus technically the shoulder check should cover the 4/5. what do you guys think?

wake up call: watch out for ppl going waaaaay faster than you

He most likely trailed you with his lights out then snapped them on as you moved over.

1/2 way through I still thought this was about a speeding ticket.:)

I still fiddle with my mirrors. The minute I think that they're good, I shift my butt and find the view lacking again. I have become aware as well of the people that think they're racing you. You don't even know they're trying to keep up until you level off at your desired speed and they zoom past.

"stay sharp" is solid advice but hard to do 110% of the time, so stay sharp!

My bad move is to do something based on knowing where a particular vehicle is ie a grey Chevy. Let the grey Chevy pass and them move over only to find a second grey Chev. Oops.
My uncle pulled in close behind a tractor trailer not realizing the guy had a pup trailer as well. Fortunately he was in his Crown Vic.

Make shoulder checks part of your lane change routine.

i did shoulder check! he wasnt in my field of vision until after i looked because he was going so fast
