Clipping carb vacuum slides. BST36

Just wanted to hear your opinions on clipping one or two coils off the slide springs.

I have done a general search and found arguments both pro's and con's with various manufacturers of motorcycles.

I would like to hear of your experiences in doing so. ie. Off the line performance, at speed, WOT. Was it hard to tune? What problems did you encounter in doing so?

Rebuilding my BST 36's and contemplating this.

I personally wouldn't do it. You can buy aftermarket springs that are more useful for doing what you want to do. You can cut the spring and you can always buy new ones if you're not happy with it. The problem with cutting springs is that you're changing the spring rate. You're making the spring stiffer..so you're actually delaying opening the slide. Depending on what you're trying to achieve, you may not be happy with the result. The carb is a system..one change can have many side-effects and you have to make everything work together.
