Long story short,
I painted my bike. Turned out great. I wanted a friend to clear it for a great finish.
Turns out he was having issues with his gun. Needless to say even with that he decided to keep trying (idiot, and no I was not their to stop him). Anyway it left some orange peel and what looked to be air bubbles?
So I went out and got 1000, 1500 and 2000 grit sand paper.
So I wet sanded some and it looked great as I was sanding got the creamy look from the water, knocked down the bumps etc.
Now I'm not looking for a show finish by any means. But the issue is even though it looks great with the water, once I stop I clean it off and it's foggy, so I got a good compound out and no shine? So I got the polisher out. And again no shine?
I figured maybe I didnt sand enough. Again a light wetsand with 2000, as water is swirling around I can see the shine of the paint.
I think great, quick wipe and and hazy again, repeat the compound ad polish. And still very hazy.

Any advice as to why this is happening?
This is my street and track bike, so I don't need a crazy finish. Just want to figure out this hazy issue.

Thanks in advance.

Ps. Tried soap and water to clean as well.

Pics are hard given the light. Just note the pic where I just added some water and little sand. And how clear the paint is.
Then you can see where I buffed and how dull it is. And of course the products I used. Can't find where I put polisher. But it's also mcguires.

The tanned pad is what I used for polish. And browny pad is for compound

My guess is the "air bubbles" are the clear coats were too close together. After each coat the paint/clear needs to gas off. The solvents evaporate out of the paint. If you lay down another coat too quickly you trap the gas under the fresh coat and it gases through leaving small holes/bubbles in the finish. The only way to fix is to sand it down and start again. If you look at the can it will tell you the flash time required and to be safe double it.

Appreciate the advice. I actually got rid of the bubbles. My main concern is just getting the clear shiny again and not dull as seen in the pics.
Put the wetsand paper to it for all of one second and I see my color again. But after it's like their is a film. Also shown above? Any idea?

Wet sand with 2000. Use a good quality glaze first with a sponge applicator on slow then a terry cloth on med and finally a buff bonnet on high. Dont use anything with carnuba on fresh paint it will haze it.

I think you might need to sand off all the clear, and buff the paint, and then new clear....

just guessing and what I have read before....so my ramblings are not first hand knowledge...

sit tight and wait, and see if carboncat come and responds to your issue, take his advise for sure.....

.

Great advice. I'm thinking this is coming down to more of a skilled hand am I correct. One in which I lack. Compounded with a very short fuse !
Never the less, I just tried an épée inner on my new experimental bike! I just grabbed a cheap can of clear from a friend. Just the crappy tire dupli color. Since I have sanded the **** out of this I thought I'd give a little spray in a couple spots. And sure enough their is the shine and color.
What do you make of this. It was suggested above to start over. This a tell tale that I may just need a spray over top?

honestly, i think that you might have to start all over again...
Don't think that's necessary as long as you haven't sanded through the clear to the basecoat. Looks like you were using a buffer, not a polisher. A buffer just makes wax shiny, where a polisher with good compound actually melts the clear a bit to make the clear shiny. You have to be careful with a polisher that you don't burn the clear.

Ok I am out. Thought this was real paint. Didnt know we were talking rattle can. I dont use it so have no comment. Dont use my recommendation. No hardner means it will just gum up.

As stated above I just wanted to experiment on a small section to see if I brought it somewhere to have someone lay a nice clear if the color would come back is all!
Don't worry as pic shows, all professional grade!

The kit I had was one buffer and one polisher. Buffer first then clean and polish.

You might just need to let the clear warm up a little more then. The nice thing is that if you mess up, you can just sand it off again.

Your bang on. Because it's just clear. Haven't broke through that into paint.
Think as I said above, that little section I tried as an "experiment" (kneedragger that's for u lol) with the can, just shows if I bring it to someone and they spray a nice clear it bring all back to life. I hope !

Are you saying the kit had two different pads, or 2 different machines?
