Cleaning chain lube from painted wheel

I've searched, but can't seem to find info on my specific question and hoping someone here might know.

Having a hard time figuring out what to use on my white wheels to clean them. I have a plethora of different cleaning products for cars, but anything I have that would work is labeled as do not use on motorcycles or may cause damage to painted surfaces. Double whammy lol.

I've tried a few gentle cleaners but can't get those little black spots off without some serious scrubbing. I've read wd40 and goo gone work well but am reluctant to put that near the tire.

Any thoughts/recommendations?

I spray a bit of WD40 onto a microfibre towel and wipe down the wheel. That easily gets rid of the chain spooge. I follow-up with a wipe-down with Bon-Ami or similar window cleaner to remove the WD40 residue (which isn't harmful, it just attracts dust more quickly...)
 
Like he ^^ said, spray wd40 on a rag, not the wheel. Don't wipe the tire, just the rim and when you're done, wax it.
 
That's what I was worried about, getting it on the tire and if it would cause issues. I've used wd40 to remove tar and bugs from cars, works great.

Motul chain cleaner is safe for paint......strips that stuff off ten times faster than wd 40 too. Same thing, apply it to the micro fiber towel.
 
I ended up using wd40 then windex, followed up with a coat of wax and it turned out great. A bit of grime still in the little corners and behind the spokes where I couldn't reach but I'm happy with the results.

I use Turtle Wax bug and tar remover. It's designed for use on painted surfaces. I just spray some on a towel and it easily comes off. No worry about over spray anywhere where you don't want it. E.g. on the tire itself. No need for any products after.
