Claims history

Just a quick question: Are insurance comapnies able to indefinitely store your claims history and share it with each other?

Scenario: My girlfriend / fiance has made a lot of claims in her life (a few at fault and a lot not at her fault) and I was wondering if we combine our insurance (with my company) will my insurance company know about the claims she has made with hers. Or equivilantly if we move to a third company will they know about her and my claims independently.

Other questions that are related : Is there a central claims database like the MTO does for driver's records / abstracts where we can see our claims etc? Is there a central claims authority? Do insurance companies really care about the claims records? Are comapnies allowed to share information about clients with each other?

There is an Insurance database from what They told me. Like any insurance company has access to it and its checks all your stuff. I am not sure if it stays on forever or just till it expires after 3 years just say for like a speeding ticket.

Your claims history is tracked by CGI - you can order your reports by following the link.
http://portal.cgi-ibs.com/en-CA/iis/Pages/ConsumerAutoPlusReport.aspx

If there is a discrepancy between the data and reality, you can contact CGI or FSCO as described in the link. Yes the companies can share information - it is similar to credit information between banks.

If you combine your policies, section 5 of the Ontario Application for Automobile Insurance asks you to, "Give details of all accidents or claims arising from the ownership, use or operation of any automobile by the applicant or any listed driver during the last 6 years."
Your claims are counted for a minimum of 6 years - some companies go as far back as ten. My recommendation is to get both of your records and then sit down with a reputable broker and get some guidance as to how to merge your policies either now or over time in order to obtain the best coverages at the most reasonable cost.
