Claiming gear and mods advice needed

First issue - gear: So my agent (State Farm) wants me to bring in my gear for the claim. Said they were going to cut the straps on the helmet. Take photos of the boots, jacket etc. And they keep the stuff. So they better pay out on it.

Except, I can't find receipts for anything (like I thought about this when I made the decision keep or not to keep right?).

Is it enough to provide the model information that they can verify or do I need to get receipts. Someone also told me it's possible a shop may be able to provide quotes on the stuff. If you are a shop and want to go the extra mile for me right now it is AGV T2 Maori helmet, Alpinestars T-GP Air jacket, Puma V2 Flat boots. Full msrp of course!

Second issue - mods:nm figured this out.

Thanks for your help. You can PM me if you are not comfy giving some kind of info in public btw.

Did you try calling the shops? Some may have the info of what you paid for each item.

If you paid with credit card and remember the month you purchased you can probably get your cc statement for that month which will show the transaction.

For gear some companies just tell you to go buy new gear and send them the receipts. If you need the original receipts go to the stores, some have a personal file of your purchases (same thing for mods). But mods may be hard to claim as replacing one part for another doesn't really increase the value of your bike, the OEM part prices from dealerships will most likely be higher than any aftermarket ones, and some ins companies may even consider them as maintenance fees that don't increase the value. The best thing is call your adjuster and ask all these questions directly...

I took the gear in and they said just leave it with them. The prices I'm claiming aren't obscene so agent said they will probably just fairly value them without much question since I'm not trying to tell them my gear is worth a couple grand or anything.

Well, what if your gear was worth a couple of grand? What would be the situation then?
Do you mind sharing how the process went for the mods?
Did you have to provide receipts?
Are they reimbursing you full value or partial?

Thanks!

Not sure yet about value since I'm just making claims now. I gave them receipts for the mods, the guy I bought them from was happy to provide.
I think if you insist your gear is worth a few grand then the burden of proof is on you. My stuff is pretty average stuff and I don't insist it is worth more than it is. Agent said they can always resort to google if all else fails, it's not hard to find the retail prices. It only gets sticky if you don't like their valuation.

It's not like I plan to make a false claim, but my gear (if I'm wearing it) is well over two grand lol... I have receipts for some, but not all.
That's why I was curious to know how the procedure went, thanks for the help.

Under the SABS (Statutory accident benefit schedule) insurance companies HAVE to pay for your gear. If the adjuster really wants to cry about it. He can look up the prices on the internet. I wouldn't worry too much, they usually pay for it.

this applies to all companies?
I am currently dealing with Jevco about my accident and if I can get money for the gloves and the helmet and my damaged watch I will get them to pay it, specially if I am not at fault.

This applies to all insurance companies. It's under section 24 of the SABS.
Damage to clothing, glasses, hearing aids, etc.
24. The insurer shall pay for all reasonable expenses incurred by or on behalf of an insured person in repairing or replacing the following:
1. Clothing worn by the insured person at the time of the accident that was lost or damaged as a result of the accident.
2. Prescription eyewear, dentures, hearing aids, prostheses and other medical or dental devices that were lost or damaged as a result of the accident.

Sorry to say, you're watch isn't covered. If you want to make an insurance claim for your watch, it would fall under your residental policy. You're helmet, gloves, riding pants, boots, hell...even your underwear is covered.
Some insurance companies insist you make an accident benefits claims, others just pay under the auto portion of your claim. Depends on their processes. Everything can be requested under an OCF-6 Application for expenses. This form can be found here :http://www.fsco.gov.on.ca/en/auto/forms/Pages/ocf_forms.aspx

Please wear your gear!!!
