I got rear-ended on the highway in my car when the traffic slowed down a little. The driver that hit me insisted that we go through insurance so I called my company and reported it even though there was very little damage.
They sent me the contact information of my adjuster but I just can't seem to get a hold of them. I have called many times (~30) and left 15+ messages. I don't have voice mail so I know they have called back 3 times but I was unable to get the phone at those times. I did specify that I prefer to communicate though email of mail when I opened the claim.
Now they have sent a letter stating if I don't contact them within 30 days they will assume that I am not pursuing the claim. I called back again and left a message with no response.
When I call the general claims line I get a person saying that they are not an adjuster and can't give me any information about my claim. When I ask to get me an adjuster they just transfer me to the mailbox of my adjuster.
Is this a known practice of insurance companies to discourage people from pursuing claims?
I want to be sure that the accident is recorded as not-at-fault for me and want to use the claim since its already open.
I was also wondering if having a claim affects my insurance rate.
Also, I have experience with painting and I was wondering if it would be possible to do the repairs myself and get a check of a reasonable amount?
Thanks
