Checking Float height

After cleaning and reassembling my carbs (SOHC 750) I went to check the float height and the they are all off .150" at least. The bike ran good before so now I'm wondering if I'm doing right.
Carbs upside down with float tab contacting the spring loaded pin in the top of the float. Should the weight of the float compress that pin at all?

Any help appreciated.

When setting the floats I decided to see what some of the other racks of carbs were like. Rack #1 had floats loose in the bowl with no pivot pins or float needle/valves. #3 looked really good but #2 above was quite a shock. Note how badly distorted the floats are but someone assembled them and filled the bowls with gas as shown on the right. Also it's weird the difference the right and left sides. The right has powered gas residue while the left are growing some kind of gas fungi.

Sitting on a side stand for years.

The left side is lower, so water (heavier than gas) pools in the left carbs.
Right side just got gas, that evaporated

Yeah, they'll buff right up.
