Sent to me from a buddy who was selling one of his older bikes on Kijji`. Seems the guy that responded wanted the bike for next to nothing:

"Looks like the High priced Vintage japanese bikes that Covid drove up is now coming to an end, Just because a bike is old does not make it worth money, just because there are not many of a particular model does not make is worth money. Is a 400 Four worth money, yes some, is a 360 Honda Twin, no, none, is an RD worth money maybe depending, a 79 or 80 yes is a 77, nope. is a Kawi triple yes a 750 is and some 500's but an S2350 or S1, nope is a z1r yes, is a KZ nope nor is a GPZ or 900 Ninja of any year. Is a nice triumph Bonneville hmm maybe 4500 but not 6500. Now I'm sure a lot of people will agree but a lot of people who own these bikes are going to be totally upset with me. 2 Strokes are going to be totally banned in the next 18 months. Just giving you a heads up now, sell them while you can. In 18 months, in Canada you will not be aloud to get plates for them, get ownership for them or put insurance on them. The same will apply in 2026 for any carbureted motorcycles and other small engines, in 2026 all combustion engines will be fuel injected or you will be dirver/riding or using electric. This will become public knowledge at the end of 2023, but they will be leaks leading up to that, such as this post."

I wonder where he is getting his doom and gloom info about carbed bikes?

I would charge him extra for having to read that.

There is no plan for removing older vehicles from the roads, regardless of 2-stroke or carburetors or what-not, or banning them from being licensed for the road. The federal government does not have that authority. The provincial government (same one that just recently cancelled Drive Clean!) is not motivated to do so. Insurance companies don't care.

Talking to be heard. Every bike is a piece of junk except mine.

I'd like to see him make that a speech at a Hell's Angels gathering.

So why is he trash talking a bike that he would be stupid to buy? He just called himself stupid

There is some truth to his rant. I have a garage full of old motorcycles, if I tracked their value like stocks, I'd be up about 200% in the last 2 years. In 2019 I'd buy any of my 40 year old bikes for $1000 or less. Today I couldn't buy any of them for $2500.

I have them because I love the heritage and the fun of preserving old stuff, I don't give a **** about their value - I just give them away at a nominal price to people who i believe will use and keep them as historically significant.

I have acquired 1 bike in the last 2 years, i bough UT off a kid who just wanted his 2018 investment back. Those buys are hard to find, it is a QT50 that cost me $500.

Old stuff is worth what someone will pay you for it. Nostalgia , romance, allure are all factors. I read an article the other night where a younger Manhattan well-to-do had been shopping for a Vincent, he was offered an H-R-D , which is an earlier Vincent , but he needed one with Vincent painted on the tank, because that would get noticed. He was quite willing to pay more for what he wanted. um ok.

Just for grins I asked if it's still available.

Some research in old tuning books by Phil Irving shows that even in the 1930's petrol with 15% ethanol was available at gas pumps in Britain for the "performance" bikes and cars of the day. And, of course, there is also the option of adding water injection to the old bikes to reduce the gasoline needed, improve mileage and increase horsepower.

AFJ
10% ethanol reduces overall fuel economy by about 3%. No big deal unless you're stretching things to get to the next gas station.

sounds legit
