It's prolly been asked before but should I change the oil before I put the bike to bed for the winter? Will it damage anything if I don't?
I changed it in early October but I've put about 2-3000km on it since then.

Thanks

sure, why not, just change the filter next time in the summer,(5000 kms) get the engine hot first.

Combustion produces oxides, which, when mixed with water (condensation), become acidic. You really should change the oil. Just put regular Rotella. It's dirt-cheap and you can ride it for 1500-2000km come spring. If you change the oil when you winterize, you don't have to change it again next season. As long as you didn't run the engine, the oil is gonna be almost as good as new.

Should I change the oil filter everytime I change the oil?

I would, especially if you're riding anything BUT a Suzuki.. You can get your hands on much cheaper filters that perform just as well as OEM and you're not forced to use Suzuki proprietary stuff.

Personally, I changed the oil before I stored the bike along with an OEM filter.
I'll probably change it again after the first 2-3000 KM's just to be on the safe side.

The only reason I'd compress the change interval is if you use oil that's not gonna take the beating.. Otherwise, business as usual. If you put in quality synthetic or even a good semi, it's 5000+ unless you REALLY abuse your engine.

Oil is the lifeblood of the engine. If you plan on keeping the bike for a long time (and using it), then change your oil, and change it often.

^^^ What I do (other than using cheap oil). Regardless of the mileage on the oil, when I decide that the season is well a truly done, I do an oil and filter change then get ready for winter mods but the engine stays off. Come the new riding season I'm all ready to go!

I use what i have on hand.. This time around I got lucky and got T6 for $30/5l so the Fizzer's good for 5000-8000km :D

Is this your way of saying you and TAFB broke up? If not get him to do it.

Don't bother. It's a waste of time, money and the environment.

Well why not change it every week??

I'd change the oil for sure. Then after the first 1000k in the spring change both. Just my nickel :)

If you need help or questions PM anytime.

Oil doesn't break down in a non-running engine. Stick with the regular change interval. Good for your wallet, good for the environment.

They do recycle oil if you dispose of it properly. Also side note: Most of us ride our bikes as a hobby/interest which is far from saving the environment. Lets not debate such a meaningless issue. There are far greater ways to help the environment than her using 4L of oil.

Most people have suggested to change the oil as well. We are all in the wrong then?

come on.

Are you not suggesting the same? oh sorry I quoted different mileage only 1k verses your 1500-2000k. my bad! wow get a grip man!

Depends on the oil.. Good full or semi-synthetic can take the beating of a wet clutch better than dino Rotella as I explained elsewhere in the thread. I put synthetic Rotella T6 5w40 in my bike, so it's good for 5-8000km when it gets fired up next season.
