chain help

my cousin bought an 06 katana i was looking at it yesterday and while it was on its center stand i was looking at the chain tension and noticed that it went from 1 inch in play to almost 2 inches. i am not sure if this is caused by warn chain or messed up sprocket... and ideas?

Assuming you are measuring the slack at the same mid-point of the bottom run, then if the tightest slack is 1" and loosest slack is 2", then it is time to replace the chain & sprockets.

Definitely a tight spot, I rode mine for a little bit like that but it isn't the greatest for the bike. I would change it as soon as you have a chance.
