Chain breaker/rivet tool

Hello all, I am wondering if anyone has a chain breaker/rivet tool that I can rent or borrow. I have a new chain and sprockets on the way but will need that tool in order to finish the install. I am in the Hamilton area if anyone has the tool.... Thanks in advance if anyone can help!

I never use the chain breakers to break the chain, I usually just cut it with my dremmel or angle grinder/cut off wheel, etc. If you're changing the front sprocket make sure to remove the front sprocket nut before you cut the old chain (and do it with the transmission in neutral).

you grind the pins flat then use the breaker to push the pins out.

If you're grinding the pins flat why not just use the grinder to simply cut through the two outside plates? Easy peasy.

Theres less metal to cut/remove by grinding the pin heads.
AND
once the chain is cut, use the link that you pushed out, to attach one end of the new chain to one end of the old chain, then pull on the old chain to drag it out, and the new chain, into position. (Gearbox in neutral.)

That, or I ground the head of the pins off and the plates just pop off with a screwdriver

Just buy one. They are not expensive. A decent one from motion pro is like $40.

That sounds so easy. I might try that. But its only if you're changing chain only right?

If sprocket change is being done then I assume this won't work

No point since you have the front sprocket cover opened up. The breaker/rivet tools are fairly cheap and worth it if you plan on during your own sprocket/chain replacements. I have a RK Chain and Rivet Tool which has held up well over the years.

Royal D. has a cheap one

Thanks for all the replies guys, I have a rivet tool on order. I'm not concerned with breaking the chain, just wanna make sure the rivet part works well.
